Although several cases of cats and dogs infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been reported during this outbreak, the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 in dog and its transmission among other companion animals are still unknown. Here, we report an extensive serological study of SARS-CoV-2 infection in dogs in Wuhan and analyse the infection rates at different stages of the pandemic outbreak. A total of 946 dogs serum samples were collected from Wuhan, of which 36 samples were obtained prior to the pandemic outbreak. Indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) showed that 16 sera collected during the outbreak were detected as positive through the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2. Of these 16 sera, 10 exhibited measurable SARS-CoV-2-specific neutralizing antibodies whose titres ranged from 1/20 to 1/180. No serological cross-reactivity was detected between SARS-CoV-2 and canine coronavirus (CCV). Furthermore, with the effective control of the outbreak, a decrease in the SARS-CoV-2 seropositive dog number was observed. Our results suggest that SARS-CoV-2 has infected companion dogs during the outbreak, and that COVID-19 patient families have a higher risk of dog infection. Our findings deepen our understanding of the infection of SARS-CoV-2 in dogs and provide an important reference for prevention of COVID-19.
Eptacog beta is a recombinant activated human factor VII approved to treat and control bleeding in haemophilia A and B patients with inhibitors. Emicizumab is a factor VIIIa mimetic antibody approved for prophylactic treatment of haemophilia A with and without inhibitors (HAI and HA, respectively). Inhibitor patients treated with emicizumab should expect breakthrough bleeding that requires bypassing agent treatment to restore haemostasis. The aim of this study is to quantify the in vitro thrombin generation induced by the addition of eptacog beta to HAI and HA plasma containing emicizumab.
Thrombin generation assays were performed using HAI and HA plasma. Thrombin generation parameters were examined using a fixed effects model with inhibitor titre, eptacog beta concentration and emicizumab concentration as main effects, and eptacog beta concentration with inhibitor and emicizumab concentration with inhibitor as interaction effects.
A significant increase in peak thrombin, ETP and velocity was observed when combinations of eptacog beta (0, 1, 2 or 5µg/ml) and emicizumab (0, 50 or 100µg/ml) were evaluated in HA and HAI plasma; the effect remained below that observed in Normal Plasma (NP). A small shortening of lag time below that of NP was observed.

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a severe adverse reaction to heparin caused by heparin-dependent, platelet-activating anti-platelet factor 4 (PF4)/heparin antibodies. Heparin is a cornerstone of treatment in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Glesatinib cell line HIT antibodies can be detected by antigen tests and functional tests. Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Program approved reimbursement of prophylactic coagulation factor replacement therapy (CFRT) for patients with haemophilia (PWH) in 2014.
To examine 15-year trends and the impact of reimbursement for prophylactic CFRT on its utilization and related medical costs for PWH.
We analysed Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Database from 2003 to 2017. We included patients with haemophilia A (PWHA) or B (PWHB) receiving coagulating factor. Female patients were excluded because of small sample size. We analysed annual consumption of CFRT units and medical costs. High proportion of days covered (PDC) with CFRT served as an indicator for prophylactic treatment since it reflects routine use of CFRT. We applied interrupted time series analysis (ITSA) to evaluate the impact of reimbursement for prophylactic CFRT on usage patterns and medical costs.
