    Measurements were taken from several points of the iris in all patients. The average aperture photometry value of transillumination defects was 1321.53 (ADU) ± 501.08 SD, while the average aperture photometry value of the papillary ruff was 90.83 (ADU) ± 53.4. On average transillumination defects transmit 14.55 times more near-infrared light than the papillary ruff. Compstatin A prototype apparatus for the capture of near-infrared iris transillumination images and custom software enabling aperture photometry measurements of the obtained images has been developed for the purpose of this study. This study demonstrates a potential application of this technique in the diagnosis and management of patients with such conditions as pigment dispersion syndrome and Adie’s tonic pupil.BACKGROUND To improve care for women going through trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC), we need to understand their birth experience better. We investigated the association between mode of delivery on birth experience in second birth among women with a first cesarean. METHODS A population-based cohort study based on the Swedish Pregnancy Register with 808 women with a first cesarean and eligible for TOLAC in 2014-2017. Outcomes were mean birth experience measured by visual analogue scale (VAS) score from 1-10 and having a negative birth experience defined as VAS score ≤5. Linear and logistic regression analyses were performed with β-estimates and odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS Mean VAS score among women with an elective repeat cesarean (n = 251 (31%)), vaginal birth (n = 388 (48%)) or unplanned repeat cesarean (n = 169 (21%)) in second birth were 8.8 (standard deviation SD 1.4), 8.0 (SD 2.0) and 7.6 (SD 2.1), respectively. Compared to women having an elective repeat cesarean, women having an unplanned repeat cesarean delivery had five-fold higher odds of negative birth experience (adjusted OR 5.0, 95% CI 1.5-16.5). Women having a first elective cesarean and a subsequent unplanned repeat cesarean delivery had the highest odds of negative birth experience (crude OR 7.3, 95% CI 1.5-35.5). CONCLUSIONS Most women with a first cesarean scored their second birth experience as positive irrespective of mode of delivery. However, the odds of a negative birth experience increased among women having an unplanned repeat cesarean delivery, especially when the first cesarean delivery was elective.Amitraz is an acaricide that is widely used in apiculture. Several studies have reported that in honeybees (Apis mellifera Linnaeus; Hymenoptera Apidae), amitraz affects learning, memory, behavior, immunity, and various other physiological processes. Despite this, few studies have explored the molecular mechanisms underlying the action of amitraz on honeybees. Here, we investigated the transcriptome of honeybees after exposure to 9.4 mg/L amitraz for 10 d, a subchronic dose. Overall, 279 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified (237 upregulated, 42 downregulated). Several, including Pla2, LOC725381, LOC413324, LOC724386, LOC100577456, LOC551785, and P4504c3, were validated by quantitative PCR. According to gene ontology, DEGs were mainly involved in metabolism, biosynthesis, and translation. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analyses revealed that amitraz treatment affected the relaxin signaling pathway, platelet activation, and protein digestion and absorption.The objective of this study was to regulate the cytotoxicity of cisplatin (cisPt) minimizing its adverse effects. For this purpose, the lowest cisPt concentration needed to obtain a significant positive response in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) was explored. Two adjuvant agents as gold nanoparticles (AuNP) and chelating tricine were tested as enhancers in cisPt treatment. Effectiveness of all treatments was assessed by means of biochemical techniques, which offer quantitative data, as well as two microscopy-based techniques that provided qualitative cell imaging. The present work confirms the effectiveness of free cisplatin at very low concentrations. In order to enhance its effectiveness while the side effects were probably diminished, cisPt 3.5 μM was administered with AuNP 2.5 mM, showing an effectiveness practically equal to that observed with free cisPt. However, the second treatment investigated, based on cisPt 3.5 μM combined with tricine 50 mM, enhanced drug effectiveness, increasing the percentage of cells dying by apoptosis. This treatment was even better in terms of cell damage than free cisPt at 15 μM. Images obtained by TEM and cryo-SXT confirmed these results, since a notable number of apoptotic bodies were detected when cisPt was combined with tricine. Thus, tricine was clearly a better adjuvant for cisPt treatments.Formation of a continuous layer of normally functioning endothelium on the lumen surface of small diameter vascular grafts is considered a prerequisite of their long-term functioning without stenosis. In this study we have evaluated the functional state of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) cultivated on the surface of autologous decellularized human umbilical vein and electrospun polyurethane-based matrices by NGS gene expression profiling. Three types of matrices produced by electrospinning from hexafluoroisopropanol solutions of pure TECOFLEX™ EG-80A polyurethane, polyurethane with gelatin and polyurethane with gelatin and bivalirudin were studied. Cells cultivated on different supports were subjected to RNA-Seq profiling on Illumina HiSeq platform. The data demonstrated that structure of 3D matrices and chemical composition of the fibers have a significant effect on gene expression profiles of HUVEC. Results suggest that protein-enriched polyurethane based 3D matrices represent a convenient surface for obtaining of normally functioning endothelial layer. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.Dispersion-corrected density functional theory was used to investigate structures consisting of a stanene layer sandwiched between atomically-thin boron nitride and graphene. The parameters controlling the mirror symmetry, lattice rotation and stacking sequences were varied systematically to generate fifteen candidate trilayers. Two types of structural buckling occur in the heterostructures depending on whether the lattice vectors are co-aligned or non-collinear. The configurations with the honeycomb lattices rotated by π/6 with respect to the stanene generally have lower binding energy. In the majority of the trilayers, the electronic structures deviate strongly from the band structures of the isolated components. The boron nitride/stanene/boron nitride structure is identified as a special case where stanene has an electronic structure that is not perturbed by interlayer interactions and resembles the ideal monolayer form. For the other candidate structures, however, interlayer interactions drive significant modifications in the electronic structure thus indicating emergent features that go beyond the pure van-der Waals description.
