The Expert Panel for Cosmetic Ingredient Safety (Panel) reviewed the safety of Hydrolyzed Silk and 9 other silk protein ingredients, which function primarily as skin and hair conditioning agents and bulking agents in cosmetic products. The Panel reviewed relevant data relating to the safety of these ingredients and concluded that 8 ingredients are safe in the present practices of use and concentration in cosmetics, as described in this safety assessment, but that the available data are insufficient for determining the safety of 2 silk protein ingredients in cosmetic products, MEA-Hydrolyzed Silk and Silkworm Cocoon Extract.The Expert Panel for Cosmetic Ingredient Safety (Panel) assessed the safety of 44 monoglyceryl monoesters that are structurally constituted as the esterification products of glycerin and carboxylic acids (the majority of which are fatty acids); 36 of these monoesters were previously reviewed by the Panel, and 8 are reviewed herein for the first time. Most of the monoglyceryl monoesters have several reported functions in cosmetics, but the most common function among the ingredients is skin conditioning agent; a few are reported to function only as surfactant-emulsifying agents. The Panel reviewed relevant new data, including frequency and concentration of use and considered the data from previous Cosmetic Ingredient Review reports. The Panel concluded that these ingredients are safe in cosmetics in the present practices of use and concentration described in this safety assessment.Accurate identification of transgender persons is a critical first step in conducting transgender health studies. To develop an automated algorithm for identifying transgender individuals from electronic medical records (EMR) using free-text clinical notes. The development and validation of the algorithm was based on data from an integrated healthcare system that served as a participating site in the multicenter Study of Transition Outcomes and Gender. Telaprevir The training and test datasets each contained a total of 300 individuals identified between 2006 and 2014. Both datasets underwent a full medical record review by experienced research abstractors. The validated algorithm was then implemented to identify transgender individuals in the EMR using all clinical notes of patients that received care between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2018. Validation of the algorithm against the full chart review demonstrated a high degree of accuracy with 97% sensitivity, 95% specificity, 94% positive predictive value, and 97% negative predictive value. The algorithm classified 7,409 individuals (3.5%) as “Definitely transgender” and 679 individuals (0.3%) as “Probably transgender” out of 212,138 candidates with a total of 378,641 clinical notes. Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) is common and can lead to neonatal emergency. Despite its burden, antenatal detection of this condition remains inaccurate.
To evaluate the diagnostic performance of fetal echocardiography and to design a scoring system for risk stratification of CoA in suspected cases.

About 140 fetuses referred for suspected CoA to our tertiary center in a 9-year period.
The following parameters were systematically obtained at fetal echocardiography ventricular disproportion, great vessels asymmetry, transverse aortic arch hypoplasia, flow turbulence, and
-scores of the ascending aorta and of the aortic isthmus. Associated anomalies were recorded, if present. When CoA was not confirmed at birth, neonates were followed up for 12 months to identify also a tardive onset of this condition.
The primary outcome was the presence of COA after birth.
108 fetuses were eligible for the purpose of the study. CoA was confirmed postnatally in 55 neonates (50.9%). Arch hypoplasia yielded the highest correlation with CoA. The affected neonates presented also significantly lower
scores of the ascending aorta and of the aortic isthmus. Earlier gestational age at referral was positively correlated with neonatal CoA. An odds ratio-based multiparametric model was designed to build a scoring system (AUC 0.89).
In our cohort, no single ultrasound parameter was sufficiently accurate to predict postnatal CoA. The scoring system permitted a better identification of the affected fetuses.

Mixed-methods cross-sectional study.
Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is a common and disabling condition. While classically, assessment and diagnosis has focused on neuromuscular symptoms, many other disabilities have been linked. The aim of this study was to explore the consequences of DCM for those with lived experience, producing a long list to inform the development of a core outcome set for DCM research.
A 2-stage process was used a focus group session of people with DCM (PwCM) and their supporters (n = 8) discussed the impact of DCM. This was used to develop a preliminary list of consequences, which were then placed into a survey of an online community of DCM sufferers (n = 224). Survey participants were asked to tick the consequences that they had experienced and given the opportunity to submit additional. Additional consequences were reviewed by a group of healthcare professionals and PwCM and included if not already represented. Demographic information including disease severity, age, and sex were captured for sampling comparison.
