    For NCVS, we used a difference-in-difference approach to investigate the relationship between state EITC generosity and IPV rates. We also used individual-level longitudinal data from the Fragile Families and Child Well-being Study (n = 13,422 person-waves). Using this cohort of US families at higher risk for IPV, we evaluated associations between estimated EITC benefits based on the mother’s state of residence and number of children and self-reported IPV. In both state- and individual-level analyses, no significant association between state EITC benefits and IPV was found. Factors that may account for these null findings include program ineligibility for individuals who separate from abusive spouses. Future research efforts should more closely examine EITC policy implementation processes and the lived experience of participating in anti-poverty programs for people experiencing IPV.The integrative Physical Activity-related Health Competence (PAHCO) model specifies competences (movement competence, control competence, and self-regulation competence) that enable people to lead a physically active lifestyle. This longitudinal study analyses the predictive quality of a multidimensional PAHCO assessment for levels of physical activity (PA) and their relevance for quality of life in COPD patients after pulmonary rehabilitation. At the end of an inpatient pulmonary rehabilitation (T2), 350 COPD patients participating in the Stay Active after Rehabilitation (STAR) study underwent assessments, including a six-factor measurement of PAHCO. PA (triaxial accelerometry) and quality of life (Saint George’s Respiratory Questionnaire) were recorded 6 weeks (T3) and 6 months (T4) after rehabilitation. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to regress the PAHCO assessment on PA, which should, in turn, influence quality of life. In univariable analysis, five and six factors of the PAHCO model were related to PA and quality of life, respectively. Multivariate modelling showed that the predictive analyses for the PA level were dominated by the 6-minute walking test representing movement competence (0.562 ≤ |β| ≤ 0.599). Affect regulation as an indicator of control competence co-predicted quality of life at T3 and levels of PA at T4. The PA level was, in turn, significantly associated with patients’ quality of life (0.306 ≤ |β| ≤ 0.388). The integrative PAHCO model may be used as a theoretical framework for predicting PA in COPD patients following pulmonary rehabilitation. The results improve our understanding of PA behaviour in COPD patients and bear implications for person-oriented PA promotion.

    Rotational ankle instability (RAI) is associated with the faster onset of severe ankle osteoarthritis via dysfunction of the anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament, and deltoid ligament. No specific clinical examination is available for RAI, and diagnostic imaging has limitations in evaluating ligament degradation. This study investigated the deltoid ligament degeneration using Hounsfield unit (HU) values on computed tomography (CT) images.

    Patients were enrolled in this retrospective analysis if they had undergone magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CT scans of the ankle. The chronic ankle instability (CAI) group comprised 20 ankles with CAI (9 men, 11 women; mean age, 28.7 years) and the control group comprised 28 ankles (16 men, 12 women, mean age, 41.3 years). The average HU values of the deep posterior tibiotalar ligament (dPTL) that constitutes the deltoid ligament were measured on coronal CT images, and MRI results were used as a reference. All patients were subdivided based on the MRI findings of dPTL injury such as fascicular disruption, irregularity, and the loss of striation.

    A strong negative correlation was identified between age and HU values for all patients (Spearman ρ = -0.63;

    < .001). The mean HU values of the dPTL for participants aged <60 years were 81.0 HU for the control group (21 ankles) and 69.5 HU for the CAI group (

    = .0075). No significant differences in the HU values were observed for the dPTL among the MRI subgroups.

    In addition to the conventional imaging examination such as stress radiographs and MRI, HU measurements of CT images could be useful for quantitatively and noninvasively evaluating degenerative changes in the deltoid ligament for CAI patients to assist the diagnosis of RAI.

    Level III. case-control study.Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) is becoming increasingly used for achieving target glycemic control as well as providing flexibility in lifestyle. In a widely used version of CSII, the insulin pump itself is attached to one end of an insulin infusion set (IIS), which delivers insulin via a thin flexible plastic tube to the patient’s body via a cannula or needle that is inserted under the skin at the other end of the IIS. Despite the increased use of CSII by patients with diabetes, there have been few recent advances in IIS technology, especially when compared to the many recent advances made in insulin pump technology and in insulin pharmacokinetics. To discuss recent developments in, and future plans for IIS development, Diabetes Technology Society virtually hosted the Advances in Insulin Pump Infusion Sets Symposium on December 1, 2020. This symposium featured experts in the field of IISs, including representatives from Medtronic and ConvaTec (which are two manufacturers that are currently developing IISs), Stanford University, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, and Science Consulting in Diabetes. The webinar’s six speakers covered (1) patient burden, (2) extended wear technology, and (3) future directions in IIS development.Neurologic and nonneurologic manifestations have been shown for Huntington disease (HD) as a genetic neurodegenerative disorder. However, cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), iron-deficiency anemia and neutropenia have not been reported as its presentations to date. We introduce the first case of a HD patient with CVT, iron-deficiency anemia and neutropenia. U0126 supplier All transient and chronic risk factors for development of these manifestations were ruled out. According to the experimental evidences reviewed in this article, we suggest that HD itself could promote formation of CVT, iron-deficiency anemia and neutropenia through vascular and blood cell abnormalities.
