    Ethnopharmacology relevanceDichondra repens J.R.Forst. and G.Forst (DRF; Convolvulaceae, called Matijin in Chinese), has been traditionally used to treat jaundice, bacillary dysentery, urinary tract infection, edema, contusions, and strains and sprains based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) concepts. Aim of study This paper intends to provide a comprehensive and critical analysis of research on DRF focusing on a relationship between traditional uses and pharmacological effects, evaluating the therapeutic potential of this plant. Methods Relevant data on DRF were retrieved from available databases. Results The heat-clearing and detoxifying, and removing the phlegm and turbid urine effects of DRF are linked to its anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV), anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective activities. Especially, the hepatoprotective effects of DRF are mainly based on anti-HBV activities of phenylalanine dipeptides Matijin-Su (MTS) and its derivatives derived from this plant. Further, a phase I anti-HBV clinical cystitis and tumors may be prior therapeutic targets of this plant in the future.Gallic acid (GA) is a simple polyphenol found in food and traditional Chinese medicine. Here, we determined the effects of GA administration in a combined mouse model of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and low-dose streptozotocin (STZ)-induced hyperglycemia, which mimics the concurrent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes pathological condition. By combining the results of physiological assessments, pathological examinations, metabolomic studies of blood, urine, liver, and muscle, and measurements of gene expression, we attempted to elucidate the efficacy of GA and the underlying mechanism of action of GA in hyperglycemic and dyslipidemic mice. HFD and STZ induced severe diabetes, NAFLD, and other metabolic disorders in mice. However, the results of liver histopathology and serum biochemical examinations indicated that daily GA treatment alleviated the high blood glucose levels in the mice and decelerated the progression of NAFLD. In addition, our results show that the hepatoprotective effect of GA in diabetic mice occurs in part through a partially preventing disordered metabolic pathway related to glucose, lipids, amino acids, purines, and pyrimidines. Specifically, the mechanism responsible for alleviation of lipid accumulation is related to the upregulation of β-oxidation and ketogenesis. These findings indicate that GA alleviates metabolic diseases through novel mechanisms.This study is to investigate the role of Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) in the asthma progression, and the involvement of autophagy. Airway remodeling mice were subjected to the HE, PAS, and Masson staining. Protein expression levels in the tissues, samples and model cells were detected with ELISA, Western blot analysis, and immunohistochemical/immunofluorescent analysis. The S1P2 receptor antagonist JTE-013 decreased the inflammatory cell infiltration and goblet cell production in asthmatic mice tissues. The IL-1, IL-4, IL-5 and serum IgE contents were decreased in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, while the Beclin1 expression in lung tissues was decreased. The LC3B1 to LC-3B2 conversion was decreased, with increased P62 accumulation and decreased p-P62 expression. In airway remodeling mice, JTE-013 significantly decreased collagen deposition in lung tissues and decreased smooth muscle cell smooth muscle activating protein expression. In lung tissue, the expression levels of Beclin1 were decreased, with decreased LC3B1 to LC-3B2 conversion, as well as the increased P62 accumulation and decreased p-P62 expression. However, these effects were reversed by the RAC1 inhibitor EHT 1864. Similar results were observed for the silencing of S1P2 receptor in the cells, as shown by the decreased Beclin1 expression, decreased LC3B1 to LC-3B2 conversion, increased P62 accumulation, and decreased p-P62 expression. The smooth muscle activators were significantly decreased in the JTE-013 and EHT1864 groups, and the EHT 1864 + S1P2-SiRNA expression level was increased. S1P is involved in the progression of asthma and airway remodeling, which may be related to the activation of S1PR2 receptor and inhibition of autophagy through RAC1.Cerebral ischemia is a multifactorial pathology characterized first by an acute injury, due to excitotoxicity, followed by a secondary brain injury that develops hours to days after ischemia. During ischemia, adenosine acts as an endogenous neuroprotectant. Few studies have investigated the role of A2B receptor in brain ischemia because of the low potency of adenosine for it and the few selective ligands developed so far. A2B receptors are scarcely but widely distributed in the brain on neurons, glial and endothelial cells and on hematopoietic cells, lymphocytes and neutrophils, where they exert mainly anti-inflammatory effects, inhibiting vascular adhesion and inflammatory cells migration. Aim of this work was to verify whether chronic administration of the A2B agonist, BAY60-6583 (0.1 mg/kg i.p., twice/day), starting 4 h after focal ischemia induced by transient (1 h) Middle Cerebral Artery occlusion (tMCAo) in the rat, was protective after the ischemic insult. BAY60-6583 improved the neurological deficit up to 7 days after tMCAo. Seven days after ischemia BAY60-6583 reduced significantly the ischemic brain damage in cortex and striatum, counteracted ischemia-induced neuronal death, reduced microglia activation and astrocytes alteration. Material and Methods A systematic review was made based on an electronic literature search in the PubMed-Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus and Open Gray databases. The review addressed the question “which antibiotic prophylaxis regimens are being used in dental implant surgery in healthy patients according to survey-based studies?” The identification, screening, eligibility and inclusion phases were conducted according to the PRISMA statement by two independent reviewers. The following data were collected country, number of surveyed dentists, number of dentists who responded (n), response rate, routine prescription of antibiotic prophylactic treatment (yes, no, or conditioned prescription), prescription regimen (preoperative, perioperative or postoperative) and antibiotic choice (first and second choice).
