To associate the impact of aortic reconstruction using currently available grafts and endografts on pulse wave velocity in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and to evaluate its effect on early cardiac systolic function indices.
Seventy-three consecutive patients with AAA (mean age 70±8 years; all men) who underwent open (n=12) or endovascular repair (EVAR; n=61) were prospectively enrolled in an observational cohort study. Left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS; an important diagnostic and prognostic index of early systolic dysfunction) and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV) were estimated 1 week preoperatively, as well as at 1 and 6 months postoperatively.
A significant time effect was found for cf-PWV, which showed an increase at 1 month that remained through 6 months (p=0.007). Additionally, a deterioration in GLS values was revealed, with a significant change at 1 month that persisted 6 months later (p<0.001). No significant group effect was observed between EVAR alar complications and symptomatology. As the concept of clear cell sarcoma-like tumor or malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumor (CCS-LT/MGNET) has been widely accepted, primary CCS of the gastrointestinal tract (CCS-GI) is becoming a rare entity. In this article, we describe a case of primary CCS-GI that occurred in the ileum of a 65-year-old male to further illustrate its rare occurrence. Similar to CCS of soft tissue (CCS-ST), the tumor was composed of spindled to epithelioid cells displaying fascicular, nested, or pseudopapillary arrangement. The tumor cells had large round to ovoid nuclei with vesicular chromatin and prominent nucleoli, containing eosinophilic to pale cytoplasm. In contrast to CCS-LT/MGNET, immunohistochemical study also showed variable positivity of HMB45, melan A, and MiTF besides the strong and diffuse staining of S100 protein and SOX10. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using fusion probes identified EWSR1 and ATF1 genes rearrangement. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis further revealed EWSR1 exons9/8-ATF1 exon4 and ATF1 exon3- EWSR1 exon11 fusion genes. CCS-GI and CCS-LT/MGNET possibly represent 2 related entities of the same spectrum, which differentiate along 2 different pathways. The association of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and mean platelet volume (MPV) with the severe gastrointestinal (GI) involvement in pediatric Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) has been reported in many studies. However, the conclusions from the previous studies were controversial. Therefore, for the first time, we performed a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the relationship of NLR and MPV to the severe GI involvements. selleckchem We retrieved PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) (up to October 2020) thoroughly to acquire eligible studies. The pooled standard mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to describe the correlation of NLR and MPV with the severe GI involvement. A total of 12 studies comprising 2168 patients with HSP were included in this meta-analysis. Our combined analysis showed that NLR in HSP patients with the severe GI involvement was significantly higher than that in those without the severe GI involvement (SMD = 1.37; 95% CI 0.70-2.05; p less then 0.01). In addition, a lower MPV was observed in children with severe GI involvement (SMD = -0.29; 95% CI -0.56 – -0.01, p = 0.042). Our sensitivity analysis and publication bias evaluation indicated that our combined results were reliable. Taken together, our study suggested NLR and MPV may be used as biomarkers for predicting or diagnosing the severe GI involvement in children with HSP. Nevertheless, more homogeneous studies with a larger sample size are required to validate these findings.
Interleukin (IL)-39 is a novel member of IL-12 family and has been reported to play a pro-inflammatory role in lupus-like mice, but its function in concanavalin A (ConA)-induced liver injury is currently unclear.
In this study, we investigated the effects of IL-39 expression in a mouse model of ConA induced-hepatitis. We first showed that delivery of plasmid DNA encoding mouse IL-39 using the hydrodynamic tail vein injection method increased IL-39 mRNA and protein levels in the liver. We then administrated mice with IL-39 plasmid before ConA injection and measured serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels, inflammatory infiltration, and hepatocyte necrosis in the liver. Additionally, we further explored the potential mechanism of IL-39 in ConA-induced liver injury by measuring several inflammatory mediators.
We found that ectopic IL-39 expression promoted the ConA-induced increase in serum ALT and AST levels, inflammatory infiltration, and hepatocyte necrosis in the liver. We also observed that IL-39 plasmid administration significantly increased serum and liver interferon-γ, tumor necrosis factor-α, and IL-17A levels, but did not affect serum and liver IL-10 levels in ConA-induced hepatitis.
Our results suggest that IL-39 can exacerbate ConA-induced hepatitis and may be a therapeutic target in inflammatory liver disease.

To determine the concentration of interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the cervical fluid in women with spontaneous preterm labor with intact fetal membranes (PTL) complicated by intra-amniotic infection (the presence of both microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity and intra-amniotic inflammation), or sterile intra-amniotic inflammation (the presence of intra-amniotic inflammation alone).
Eighty women with singleton pregnancies complicated by PTL between gestational ages 22 + 0 and 34 + 6 weeks were included in this retrospective cohort study. Samples of amniotic and cervical fluids were collected at the time of admission. Amniotic fluid samples were obtained via transabdominal amniocentesis, and cervical fluid was obtained using a Dacron polyester swab. Microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity was diagnosed based on the combination of culture and molecular biology methods. The concentration of IL-6 in the amniotic and cervical fluids were measured using an automated electrochemiluminescence immunoassay method. Intra-amniotic inflammation was defined as an amniotic fluid IL-6 concentration ≥3000 pg/mL.
