Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a pollutant widely found in groundwater, especially in the heavily contaminated industrial sites. this website Biological dechlorination method is environmentally friendly and low-cost. However, microorganisms grow slowly and their activity is susceptible to environmental fluctuations. This study used biochar as an additive to promote anaerobic biodegradation of TCE with mixed culture. Results showed that biochar with dose of 0.1-0.4% (w/v) brought a rapid initial decrease of TCE concentration by 39.4-88.8% in 24 h via adsorption mechanism. Biochar produced at 500 °C pyrolysis temperature (BC500) achieved the highest TCE adsorption in comparison to BC300 and BC700. Subsequently, a significantly shortened microbial stagnation phase (from 85 h to 37 h) was observed in the system with the presence of biochar. During the exponential growth phase, BC700 outperformed BC300 and BC500 in terms of TCE degradation efficiency. Electrochemical analysis demonstrated that BC700 possessed the greatest electrontion in practice. In marine recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), efficient nitrogen removal is challenging due to the high NO3–N concentration, low organic matters content, and high salinity. In this study, mariculture solid wastes (MSW) acidogenic liquid pretreated by thermophilic bacteria (TB) combined with alkyl polyglucose (APG) was first used as carbon source for denitrification to remove NO3–N. TB + APG pretreatment could accelerate the hydrolysis of MSW, and the highest volatile fatty acids (VFAs) yield (40.3%) was obtained with TB + 0.2 g/g VSS APG pretreatment. MSW acidogenic liquid pretreated by TB + 0.2 g/g VSS APG was a reliable carbon source for denitrification, and the optimum COD/NO3–N ratio (C/N) was 8 with no residue of NOx–N. VFAs were more effectively utilized by denitrifiers than carbohydrate and protein. The high denitrification potential (PDN) and denitrification rate (VDN) indicated the higher denitrification ability at C/N of 8 using MSW acidogenic liquid as carbon source. The outcomes of this work could provide useful information for promoting technological innovation in marine RAS wastewater treatment.Monitoring pollution in Arctic regions is a challenging and important task, regardless of the way these lands are used. The summer 2019 expedition to the Yamal Peninsula revealed historic petroleum pollution of the tundra area adjacent to “Yamalsky” natural reserve. Soil, surface water and bottom sediments from a downhill lake, and herbaceous plant Eriophorum scheuchzeri samples were collected to address the origin and the level of the aged pollution, and to investigate, if E. scheuchzeri species could be a potential phytoremediation agent. Compositional GC-MS analysis of the soil organic matter showed that diesel fuel spillage affected the study area and the territories nearby. Weathered diesel compounds penetrated the soil and reached the permafrost layer at 85 cm depth. Petroleum hydrocarbon level peaked at 11% (wt) in the topsoil at the polluted site and 3% (wt) in the bottom sediments of the downhill lake, demonstrating chronic ecosystem exposure. The following ICP-MS analysis showed presence of trace elements (V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Mo, Ag, Cd, Ba, Pb, Bi, U) in the soil, water, and E. scheuchzeri samples. Observed concentrations of V, Cr, Cd, Pb, Ni, and Zn in the soil samples exceeded the background values by 3.6, 2.3, 9.7, 2.9, and 3.0 times, respectively. V (0.4 mg/L) and Cr (0.12 mg/L) levels in the lake water exceeded the established national limits by 40 and 2.4 times, respectively, which demonstrated the possibility of pollution migration with groundwater or surface water. The plant E. scheuchzeri tolerated diesel pollution and stimulated natural attenuation, bioaccumulating Mo, Cd, Ba, and Bi in its tissue from the soil. E. scheuchzeri is proposed for phytoremediation of Arctic soils polluted with petroleum and metals.

Ischemic stroke is caused by a sudden neurological defect following a vascular occlusion and elicits a local and systemic inflammation in brain tissue. Interleukin-38 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine associated with ischemic and inflammatory diseases. This study was designed to analyze the effect of tPA therapy on interleukin-38 serum level changes and the serum level of IL-38 in the prognosis of ischemic stroke patients in the next three months.

We enrolled 29 ischemic stroke patients confirmed by a neurologist based on radiologic and clinical manifestation between 2019 September to 2020 February. The patients who had NIHSS more than 6 with no underlying inflammatory diseases were selected for tPA therapy. On admission and 24h after tPA therapy, the IL-38 serum level was measured by ELISA kit.

The results showed that serum levels of IL-38 were significantly increased after tPA therapy (P<0.001). A remarkable relationship was observed between the modified Rankin Score (mRS) and IL-38 serum changes inbeen found between IL-38 serum changes in response to tPA and mRS. Since the lower changes in IL-38 serum level result in a poorer prognosis, we conclude that IL-38 serum changes might be a novel early predictor factor for ischemic stroke prognosis. This review examines the concerted role of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) and integrins in regulating Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production through different signaling pathways. ROS as such are not always deleterious to the cells but they also act as signaling molecules, that regulates numerous indespensible physiological fuctions of life. Many adaptor proteins, particularly Shc and Grb2, are involved in mediating the downstream signaling pathways stimulated by EGFR and integrins. Integrin-induced activation of EGFR and subsequent tyrosine phosphorylation of a class of acceptor sites on EGFR leads to alignment and tyrosine phosphorylation of Shc, PLCγ, the p85 subunit of PI-3 K, and Cbl, followed by activation of the downstream targets Erk and Akt/PKB. Functional interactions between these receptors result in the activation of Rac1 via these adaptor proteins, thereby leading to Reactive Oxygen Species. Both GF and integrin activation can produce oxidants independently, however synergistically there is increased ROS generation, suggesting a mutual cooperation between integrins and GFRs for redox signalling.
