Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) may impart substantial morbidity and mortality, and novel imaging modalities are now available to aid in early diagnosis of this clinically silent disease. A better understanding of the clinical experience with CS is important. Twenty-eight patients were diagnosed with the aid of multimodality imaging techniques and were treated by a multidisciplinary team. Demographics, symptomatology, imaging, and therapeutic interventions were compiled from our referral center. In patients with CS, nuclear and MR techniques were often the first studies performed. Echocardiographic findings differed widely. Immunosuppressive therapy and cardiac devices were frequently used. The clinics are beneficial for patients and medical students because patients receive needed medical attention and medical students get early clinical exposure. During the clinics, medical students use portable ultrasound machines to guide diagnoses. When surveyed about their use of ultrasound on clinic nights, most students responded positively.The purpose of the current study was to describe the femoral and patellar insertions of the lateral patellofemoral ligament (LPFL) and to determine their location relative to known anatomic and radiographic landmarks. In this descriptive laboratory study, 10 cadaveric knees were dissected, and the patellar and femoral insertions of the LPFL were identified. Each specimen was examined radiographically. The average center of the femoral insertion of the LPFL was calculated in reference to radiographic landmarks.This study evaluated soft-embalmed human cadavers for ultrasound needle-guidance training. Second-year medical students used peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line and central line models and a Thiel-embalmed cadaver for training and provided feedback. Most (85%) agreed the cadaver was useful. There were positive correlations between performing the PICC line (r=0.44, P=.11) and central line (r=0.63, P=.03) procedures on a cadaver and in a clinical setting. Thiel-embalmed cadavers may provide important hands-on training.Destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) induces osteoarthritis (OA) in a rat model, but using the contralateral limb as control is unknown. We examined DMM and obesity in an OA rat model using contralateral limbs as control. Femoral condyles and tibial plateaus were evaluated. No differences were found between knees across diet groups (P=.61) or between surgery scores in diet groups (both P>.49). Thus, contralateral limbs may be a control for short-term (≤4 weeks) studies.The current study evaluated an interprofessional approach involving medical students and nurses for learning vascular access with ultrasonography. Vascular access laboratories included needle-guidance training and provided an efficient way to master technically difficult venipuncture cases. Most agreed ultrasound technology was useful for these venipuncture cases. Participants felt prepared to perform venipuncture using ultrasonography in a clinical setting after training. Such laboratories should be considered for interprofessional learning of difficult procedures in the medical school curriculum.The single accreditation system (SAS) through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education was introduced in 2014. Its goals included increasing consistency in training and providing a dedicated place for delivery of osteopathic educational competencies. From 2015 to 2020, most osteopathic primary care and specialty residencies in Missouri successfully achieved accreditation. Nearly all osteopathic surgical specialty residencies and traditional internships did not make the transition. The current article examines the challenges and opportunities of SAS.The rates of physician burnout, depression, and suicide have been on the rise over the past 50 years. Despite increased attention to these topics over the past decade these numbers have remained steady. In the age of SARS-Cov-2 and COVID-19 these numbers are predicted to show a steep increase due to the increased work demands, social isolation, decreased self-care, and increased exposure to emotionally traumatic events at work and home. The potential solutions to these issues generally remain the same; however, we are now in an environment with even more barriers to those solutions.
