The loss of the only child is a major chronic stressor that has cumulative negative effect on psychological well-being.
The findings suggested the loss of the only child is a more devastating event than the loss of spouse in Chinese adults. The loss of the only child is a major chronic stressor that has cumulative negative effect on psychological well-being.
Coping with the stress of real and simulated disasters is thought to be integral to the performance of emergency medicine providers. Yet, little is known about which coping strategies are employed in these scenarios and whether differential use of strategies predicts actual clinical and interpersonal performance.
Thirty-four medical students were evaluated by trained simulated patients and physician observers across 111 clinical encounters during a simulated disaster. Linear Mixed Effects Modelling was used to test study hypotheses while accounting for demographic variables, psychological factors, and the dependency of multiple encounters for each participant.
Results indicated that multilevel modeling was necessary. Positive thinking positively predicted observed clinical performance whereas avoidant coping was a negative predictor. Anticipatory anxiety and positive affect, but not reported coping, positively predicted student interpersonal performance.
The present study indicates that the way medical students report managing the stress of disaster scenarios has clear links to their observed clinical performance above and beyond demographic and psychological factors. It further demonstrates the feasibility of empirically identifying specific coping strategies that may be important targets for disaster response training.

A common feature is a loss of retinal capillary vessels resulting in hypoxia and neuronal damage. The oxygen-induced retinopathy model is widely used to study revascularization of an ischemic area in the mouse retina. The presence of endothelial tip cells indicates vascular recovery; however, their quantification relies on manual counting in microscopy images of retinal flat mount preparations. Recent advances in deep neural networks (DNNs) allow the automation of such tasks. We demonstrate a workflow for detection of tip cells in retinal images using the DNN-based Single Shot Detector (SSD). The SSD was designed for detection of objects in natural images. We adapt the SSD architecture and training procedure to the tip cell detection task and retrain the DNN using labeled tip cells in images of fluorescently stained retina flat mounts. Transferring knowledge from the pretrained DNN and extensive data augmentation reduced the amount of required labeled data. Our system shows a performance comparable to the human level, while providing highly consistent results. Therefore, such a system can automate counting of tip cells, a readout frequently used in retinopathy research, thereby reducing routine work for biomedical experts. The aim of the present work was the comparison of antimicrobial activity, mechanism and components of the ethanol extract (EE) from Lentinula edodes Berk (Pegler) and Agaricus bisporus Sing (Lange). The main component of EE of A. bisporus was dianhydromannitol (20.1%), while isosorbide/dianhydromannitol (21.8%) was detected at a high rate in L. edodes ethanol extract by GC-MS . The common phenolic acids were determined as chlorogenic acid, syringic acid, rutin, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, 2-hydroxy cinnamic acid, protocatechuic acid, abscisic acid, and trans-cinnamic acid in both mushroom extract by HPLC-MWD . The MICs (minimum inhibitory concentration) of L. edodes EE on Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis and Acinetobacter baumannii were between 5.1 mg ml-1 and 6.01 mg ml-1, while MICs of A. find more bisporus EE on the pathogens were between 5.8 mg ml-1 and 9.54 mg ml-1. The highest DRA decrease was in E. faecalis (69.1%) for L. edodes and S. aureus (71.0%) for A. bisporus in the 20th minute. As a result, L. edodes and A. bisporus have a similar antibacterial effect on the pathogens, and this inhibition effect caused DNA, protein leakage and destruction of permeability of bacterial cell membrane by bioactive molecules in mushroom extract.
To compare the use of high saphenous ligation and stripping, radiofrequency ablation, and subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery for the treatment of active venous ulcers.
One hundred ninety-five (
= 195) subjects who were treated for venous leg ulcers were enrolled between 2009 and 2014. Three groups were formed (Group A high saphenous ligation and total stripping, Group B radiofrequency ablation of the great saphenous vein + perforators, and Group C radiofrequency ablation of the great saphenous vein + subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery) (
= 65 for each group). The venous clinical severity score for baseline, 1st, 6th, and 12th months, great saphenous vein occlusion at the 1st, 6th, and 12th months, and ulcer rates for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th years were recorded.
For venous clinical severity score, only the first month decrease was significant for the subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery group (
= 0.001). Great saphenous vein occlusion was higher at the 6th and 12th months for the high saphenous ligation and stripping and subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery groups than for the radiofrequency ablation group (
= 0.036 and
= 0.037). The rate of ulcers for the subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery group was lower at the second, third, fourth, and fifth years (
= 0.011). No significant difference was found between groups for the five-year recovery rates (
> 0.05).
Subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery technique in conjunction with radiofrequency ablation of axial vein was superior to both high saphenous ligation and stripping and radiofrequency ablation of axial and perforators for ulcer healing.
