    Pulmonary endothelial cell injury is a hallmark of acute lung injury. High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) can modulate the inflammatory response via endothelial cell activation and release of inflammatory molecules. Thus, we tested whether induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) can alleviate ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) induced lung injury, and, if so, whether HMGB1 mediates the effect in a male C57BL/6 mouse model. Intravenously injected iPSCs into mice 2 h after I/R showed a significant attenuation of lung injury (assessed by lung mechanics, edema, and histology) 24 h after reperfusion (compared with controls), along with decreases in HMGB1, phosphorylated nuclear factor-κB, inflammatory cytokines [interleukin (IL)1β, IL6 and tumor necrosis factor-α], and the activation of endothelial cells. Furthermore, these effects of iPSCs can be mimicked by blocking HMGB1 with an inhibitor in vivo and in vitro. We conclude that iPSCs can be a potential therapy for I/R-induced lung injury. These cells may exert therapeutic effects through blocking HMGB1 and inflammatory cytokines.

    We aimed to reveal if low dose X-rays would induce harmful or beneficial effect or dual response on biological cells and whether there are conditions the radiation can enhance gene transfer efficiency and promote cell growth but without damage to the cells.

    A systematic study was performed on the effects of Kilo-V and Mega-V X-rays on the cell morphology, viability, membrane permeability, DNA damage, and gene transfection of 293 T and CHO cells.

    The Kilo-V X-rays of very low doses from 0.01 to 0.04 Gray in principle didn’t induce any significant change in cell morphology, growth, membrane permeability, and cause DNA damage.     Upregulation of miR-152 improved viability of chondrocytes, decreased apoptosis and balanced the catabolic and anabolic factors of extracellular matrix in vitro. Injecting miR-152 lentivirus in rats improved articular cartilage in osteoarthritis ACLT rats. Bioinformatics analysis suggested TCF-4 as favorable target gene of miR-152, having binding site on the 3’UTR region of TCF-4 mRNA and inhibited the expression of TCF-4. Osteoarthritis tissue cartilage both from humans and rats showed expression of miR-152 inversely linked with expression of TCF-4.

The participants consisted of 172 elderly people aged 60 years and older in a suburban village of northern Thailand. This study consisted of a survey questionnaire and focus group discussions and was divided in to two phases (1) exploring the needs of the elderly in the knowledge of child health and (2) developing learning media, so that the elderly can learn how to promote child health and evaluate its efficiency in the trial process. Results showed that the participants mostly preferred the topic of activities of daily living (ADL) in children. The learning media contributes two major contents (a) knowledge of child development in five types of ADL performance, brushing, eating, dressing, bathing, and toileting, and (b) methods in teaching ADL skills in children. The digital contents in the learning media were proposed to experts for professional approval. Efficiency of the learning media was evaluated after the trial, when the participants expressed their opinion, and the users perceived that the learning media was effective, motivating, easy to use, and simple in the terms used, as well as appropriate in the sequence of contents and pictures and font, size, and color of the text.

    Primary headache associated with sexual activity (PHASA) is rare but recognized by the International Classification of Headache Disorders. Although triptans and indomethacin have been suggested as a pharmacological treatment option for acute treatment, indomethacin can be administered preemptively, and β-blockers has been proposed as a treatment option for prophylactic management, pharmacologic efficacy remains uncertain. Manual therapy for PHASA has not been studied and thus has no scientifically proven effect. The purpose of this case study is to present a successful case of chiropractic care for a patient with PHASA.

    This case study presents a case where a 19-year-old white European female student presented to a primary care chiropractic clinic complaining of mainly left-sided intense headache, which had acute onset right before or during orgasm. The patient had never suffered headaches before this, and the intense headache never occurred outside sexual activity nor during intercourse if she did not reach orgasm.
