    Photosystems possess distinct fluorescence emissions at low (77K) temperature. PSI emits in the long-wavelength region at ~710-740 nm. In diatoms, a successful clade of marine primary producers, the contribution of PSI-associated emission (710-717 nm) has been shown to be relatively small. However, in the pennate diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum, the source of the long-wavelength emission at ~710 nm (F710) remains controversial. Here, we addressed the origin and modulation of F710 fluorescence in this alga grown under continuous and intermittent light. The latter condition led to a strong enhancement in F710. Biochemical and spectral properties of the photosynthetic complexes isolated from thylakoid membranes were investigated for both culture conditions. F710 emission appeared to be associated with PSI regardless of light acclimation. To further assess whether PSII could also contribute to this emission, we decreased the concentration of PSII reaction centres and core antenna by growing cells with lincomycin, a chloroplast protein synthesis inhibitor. The treatment did not diminish F710 fluorescence. Our data suggest that F710 emission originates from PSI under the conditions tested and is enhanced in intermittent light-grown cells due to increased energy flow from the FCP antenna to PSI.

    The growing epidemics of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), an emerging tick-borne disease in East Asia, and its high case fatality rate have raised serious public health concerns.

    Surveillance data on laboratory-confirmed SFTS cases in China were collected. The spatiotemporal dynamics and epidemiological features were explored. The socioeconomic and environmental drivers were identified for SFTS diffusion using survival analysis and for SFTS persistence using a two-stage generalized boosted regression tree model.

    During 2010‒2018, a total of 7,721 laboratory-confirmed SFTS cases were reported in China, with an overall CFR of 10.5%. The average annual incidence increased >20 times and endemic areas expanded from 27 to 1,574 townships, whereas the CFR declined from 19% to 10% during this period. selleck chemicals llc Four geographical clusters, the Changbai Mountain area, the Jiaodong Peninsula, the Taishan Mountain area and the Huaiyangshan Mountain area, were identified.     Optimal management of vestibular schwannoma(VS) is still debated and thus international consensus has not been achieved. Treatment options are observation, radiotherapy and surgery. Knowledge on the natural history of tumor growth is essential for choice of treatment modality. The aim is to present intra-/extrameatal tumor growth and management data from a prospective, unselected national cohort of patients diagnosed with VS during the period 1976-2015.

    Since 1976, all data from patients diagnosed with sporadic VS in Denmark have been referred to our national treatment center, where their data have been entered prospectively into the national database. Data on tumor localization, growth and treatment were retrieved. Growth definition>2mm by linear measurement, in accordance with the Tokyo-2001 consensus-meeting recommendations.

    3637 cases of VS were diagnosed, of which 1304 patients had surgery and 21 received radiotherapy post-diagnosis. 2312 patients were observed with mean follow-up of 7.33 years, of these 434(19%; 102 intra-and 332 extrameatal tumors) changed to active treatment during the observation period due to tumor growth. Five years after diagnosis 21% of the intrameatal tumors exhibited growth during observation, whereas 37% of extrameatal tumors had grown, increasing to 25% intrameatal and 42% extrameatal after 10 years. Following growth, the intrameatal tumors were mostly observed further and the extrameatal mostly underwent surgery. Tumor growth occurred mainly within the first 5 years post-diagnosis.

Literature-based, manually curated interactions are integrated to create a knowledgebase that harmonizes cross-species heterogeneous data for chemical exposures and their biological repercussions. In this biennial update, we report a 20% increase in CTD curated content and now provide 45 million toxicogenomic relationships for over 16 300 chemicals, 51 300 genes, 5500 phenotypes, 7200 diseases and 163 000 exposure events, from 600 comparative species. Furthermore, we increase the functionality of chemical-phenotype content with new data-tabs on CTD Disease pages (to help fill in knowledge gaps for environmental health) and new phenotype search parameters (for Batch Query and Venn analysis tools). As well, we introduce new CTD Anatomy pages that allow users to uniquely explore and analyze chemical-phenotype interactions from an anatomical perspective. Finally, we have enhanced CTD Chemical pages with new literature-based chemical synonyms (to improve querying) and added 1600 amino acid-based compounds (to increase chemical landscape). Together, these updates continue to augment CTD as a powerful resource for generating testable hypotheses about the etiologies and molecular mechanisms underlying environmentally influenced diseases.
