to ACHBLF. The sensitivity and specificity of UBE2Q1 promoter methylation status combined with the model for end-stage liver disease score for early diagnosis of ACHBLF were 92.9% and 75.0%, respectively. The area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve was 0.895.The hypomethylation of UBE2Q1 promoter is associated with severity of Pre-ACHBLF, which could serve as a potential prognostic biomarker for pre-ACHBLF.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an emerging and rapidly evolving disease, with no recommended effective anti-coronavirus treatments. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been widely used to treat COVID-19 in China, and the most used one is Lianhuaqingwen (LH). This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of LH combined with usual treatment vs usual treatment alone in treating mild or moderate COVID-19 by a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
We systematically searched the Medline (OVID), Embase, the Cochrane Library, and 4 Chinese databases from inception to July 2020 to include the RCTs that evaluated the efficacy and safety of LH in combination with usual treatment vs usual treatment for mild or moderate COVID-19. A meta-analysis was performed to calculate the risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for binary outcomes and mean difference (MD) for continuous outcomes.
A total of 5 RCTs with 824 individuals with mild or moderate COVID 19 were included. Compainical efficacy in patients with mild or moderate COVID-19 without increasing adverse events. However, given the limitations and poor quality of included trials in this study, further large-sample RCTs or high-quality real-world studies are needed to confirm our conclusions.
We aimed at verifying the usefulness of spectral Doppler ultrasonography in determining development of the testis after torsion in boys. The study involved 28 patients and 30 control cases divided into 3 developmental groups pre-pubertal, early pubertal, and pubertal. It presented surgical management in testicular torsion (TT), volume, and echogenicity of testes, as well as peak-systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity (EDV), and vascular resistance index (RI) in the capsular and intra-testicular arteries, regarding developmental groups, detorsed testes, uninvolved ones, and testes in the control group.Orchiectomy was performed in 13 boys with complete TT, in 11 lasting for over 24 hours, and in 2 lasting for 9 and 10 hours, respectively. Orchiectomy mainly involved patients aged up to 6 years, who at the time of the follow-up ultrasound belonged to the pre-pubertal group. There is no clear correlation between the type of testicular torsion, its duration, and the echogenicity of the testis. Testicular rchiectomy mainly involved patients aged up to 6 years, who at the time of the follow-up ultrasound belonged to the pre-pubertal group. There is no clear correlation between the type of testicular torsion, its duration, and the echogenicity of the testis. Testicular torsion has a negative effect on the volume of detorsed testis with compensatory hypertrophy of the uninvolved testis. The study represents a new approach to the issue of long-term gonadal blood supply abnormalities after treatment of testicular torsion in childhood.
To investigate the clinicopathological features and outcomes of primary IgA nephropathy with nephrotic-range proteinuria in Chinese children. Patients with biopsy-proven IgA nephropathy and nephrotic-range proteinuria between January 2011 and December 2017 were included, and their proteinuria and renal function were followed up. A total of 90 patients were enrolled, and 21.1% (19/90) of them had decreased renal function at diagnosis. Complete remission, partial remission, and no response of proteinuria occurred in 88.6% (70/79), 10.1% (8/79), and 1.3% (1/79), respectively, of the 79 patients who were followed up for 6 to 104 months. 73.7% (14/19) of the patients with decreased renal function at diagnosis recovered to normal level while 26.3% (5/19) of them did not recover or progressed to end-stage renal disease. Two patients with normal renal function at diagnosis progressed to renal insufficiency during follow-up period. By multivariate analysis, the risk for renal function deterioration was significantlygnosis recovered to normal level while 26.3% (5/19) of them did not recover or progressed to end-stage renal disease. Two patients with normal renal function at diagnosis progressed to renal insufficiency during follow-up period. By multivariate analysis, the risk for renal function deterioration was significantly higher in the partial remission and no response groups than in the complete remission group. Remission of proteinuria was important for improving renal prognosis in children with IgA nephropathy and nephrotic-range proteinuria. The outcomes for pediatric patients appeared to be better than that reported in adults.
This study aims to assess the therapeutic effects of a well-known component (puerarin) obtained from a Chinese herb root in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Women with premature ovarian failure (POF) were assigned to the obese group (body mass index [BMI] ≥24 kg/m2 and waist hip ratio [WHR] >0.85) or non-obese group (group 3, n = 21). Obese patients were further randomly assigned to the obese treatment group (group 1, n = 15) and obese control group (group 1, n = 15). Barasertib All patients received standard treatment (Diane-35, 1 tablet/d, orally, plus metformin, 1.5 g/d, orally). In addition to the standard modality, patients in group 1 and group 3 also orally received 150 mg/d of puerarin tablets for 3 months. Venous blood was drawn before and after treatment. Then, the metabolic and antioxidant biomarkers were measured. The normality of distribution of the data was tested using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov method. The baseline characteristics were analyzed using one-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA), and post-hoc was performed using the least significance difference (LSD)-t test.
Significantly improved blood levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were observed in patients who received the additional treatment of puerarin, regardless of their lean or obese status, while these were not observed in patients who did not receive puerarin. Furthermore, obese patients with PCOS had significantly lower systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, and testosterone blood levels, when compared with before treatment.
The addition of puerarin to the present treatment protocol can be considered for the management of metabolic disorders and hyperandrogenism in PCOS patients.
