92.Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive cognitive impairment. VT104 The pathogenesis of AD is complex, and its susceptibility and development process are affected by age, genetic and epigenetic factors. Recent studies confirmed that gut microbiota (GM) might contribute to AD through a variety of pathways including hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis and inflflammatory and immune processes. CM formula, herbs, and monomer enjoy unique advantages to treat and prevent AD. Hence, the purpose of this review is to outline the roles of GM and its core metabolites in the pathogenesis of AD. Research progress of CMs regarding the mechanisms of how they regulate GM to improve cognitive impairment of AD is also reviewed. The authors tried to explore new therapeutic strategies to AD based on the regulation of GM using CM.

To assess whether adjuvant Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) to standard treatment could reduce recurrent bleeding after variceal bleeding in cirrhotic patients.

This study retrospectively collected 555 consecutive patients who recovered from variceal bleeding. A population-based cohort study was established depending on if adjuvant CPMs were administered to prevent rebleeding. A total of 139 patients who had taken ⩾28 cumulative defined daily doses (cDDDs) of CPMs were included in the CPMs cohort, and 416 patients who used <28 cDDDs of CPMs were enrolled in the non-CPMs cohort. On evaluation of rebleeding incidence, 12 propensity score matched was used to estimate for reducing bias. Patients were followed for at least 12 months. The end-point of this study was clinically significant esophagogastric variceal rebleeding.

Following multivariate analysis, CPMs therapy was an independent factor for variceal rebleeding [adjusted hazard ratio (AHR)=0.657; 95% confidence interval=0.497-0.868; P=0.003]. After the 12 propensity score matching, a significant reduction (23.5%) in the incidence of variceal rebleeding in patients was observed, from 58.3% in the non-CPMs cohort to 44.6% in the CPMs cohort (modified log-rank test, P=0.002) within a year. The AHRs for rebleeding were 0.928, 0.553, and 0.105, for 28-90 cDDDs, 91-180 cDDDs, and >180 cDDDs of CPMs, respectively. The median rebleeding interval in the CPMs cohort was significantly larger compared with the non-CPMs cohort (113.5 vs. 93.0 days; P=0.008).

Adjuvant CPMs to standard therapy can significantly reduce the incidence of variceal rebleeding and delay the time to rebleeding.

To investigate the efficacy of Qingfei Yihuo Capsules (, QYCs) in preventing the air pollution associated exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

This was a prospective, parallel, single-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Sixty patients with stable Group D COPD were randomly allocated to receive either oral QYCs (intervention group) or placebos (control group, 30 cases per group) for 15 days in the presumed high-incidence air pollution season and followed-up for 1 year. Both groups were given individualized Western medicine therapy according to the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease criteria as usual. Total and separate numbers of acute exacerbation (AE) associated with striking air pollution was the primary outcomes. Secondary outcomes included total numbers of deteriorating respiratory symptoms and separate numbers associated with striking air pollution, as well as scores of COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and modified Medical Research Council Scale (mMRC).ms associated with air pollution, although there was no evidence that it had a significant reductive effect on AEs. (Registered at Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, registration No. ChiCTR-IOR-17013827).

To illustrate the research framework, overall knowledge structure, and development trends of Chinese medicine (CM) treatment for osteosarcoma (OS) by using a bibliometric analysis and newly developed visualization tools.

Research datasets were acquired from the Web of Science (WOS) database from January 1, 1980 to September 30, 2019. VOS viewer and Citespace software was used to analyze the data and generate visualization knowledge maps. Annual trends of publications, distribution of institutes, distribution of journals, citation and H-index status, co-authorship status, research hotspots and co-citation status were analyzed.

A total of 223 publications in the WOS database met the requirement. The number of published articles showed a rise but the citation frequency and the H-index of China were relatively low. The cooperation between the countries, institutes and authors were relatively weak. Most publications were basic researches. Most of the previous researches focused on basic mechanisms of CM in treating OS, and therapy and improvement of dosage form may become a frontier in this research field.

Compared with other fields, the field of CM treatment for osteosarcome is still in infancy. The distribution of researches is imbalanced and cooperation between countries, institutions and authors remains to be strengthened. Furthermore, basic research occupies an absolute dominant position, and the exploration of the molecular mechanism of CM in preventing and treating OS may become a key point in the future.

To investigate the effects of multidisciplinary and comprehensive Chinese medicine (CM) treatments on progression-free survival (PFS) and median survival time (MST) in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and identify factors that influence progression and prognosis.

Clinical data of 855 patients with advanced NSCLC who received multidisciplinary and comprehensive CM treatments at Longhua Hospital from January 2009 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate analysis was performed by the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank sequential inspection. Multivariate analysis of significant variables from the univariate analysis was performed with Cox regression modeling. Key factors correlated to progression and prognosis were screened out, and a Cox proportional hazard model was established to calculate the prognostic index.

The PFS and MST of 855 advanced NSCLC patients were 9.0 and 26.0 months, respectively. The 1-, 2-, 3-, and 5-year survival rates were 79.2%, 54%, 36.2%, and 17.
