Hydrogen stable isotope analysis has been a valuable tool in the fields of geochemistry and ecological research as well as many other research fields. The methods are mainly divided into the dual-inlet method (off-line method) and continuous flow method. The dual-inlet method is complicated and inefficient, but it is still important because of its high precision and wide application range. Although the continuous flow method improves the experimental efficiency, the memory effect is noticeable and the accuracy is reduced. An improved sealed quartz-tube method is proposed in this paper. The sample is sealed in a capillary tube and placed in a quartz tube containing chromium powder. It is then packaged, evacuated, reacted at a high temperature, and analyzed for hydrogen isotope ratio. Excellent data accuracy, good reproducibility ( less then 1‰), and no memory effect occurred in the method. The process is relatively simple, and the experimental efficiency is greatly improved, which provides an effective method for the analysis of hydrogen isotopes in complex liquid samples.Employing a range of neuroanatomical stains, we detail the organization of the main and accessory olfactory systems of the African wild dog. The organization of both these systems follows that typically observed in mammals, but variations of interest were noted. Within the main olfactory bulb, the size of the glomeruli, at approximately 350 μm in diameter, are on the larger end of the range observed across mammals. In addition, we estimate that approximately 3,500 glomeruli are present in each main olfactory bulb. This larger main olfactory bulb glomerular size and number of glomeruli indicates that enhanced peripheral processing of a broad range of odorants is occurring in the main olfactory bulb of the African wild dog. Within the accessory olfactory bulb, the glomeruli did not appear distinct, rather forming a homogenous syncytia-like arrangement as seen in the domestic dog. check details In addition, the laminar organization of the deeper layers of the accessory olfactory bulb was indistinct, perhaps as a consequence of the altered architecture of the glomeruli. This arrangement of glomeruli indicates that rather than parcellating the processing of semiochemicals peripherally, these odorants may be processed in a more nuanced and combinatorial manner in the periphery, allowing for more rapid and precise behavioral responses as required in the highly social group structure observed in the African wild dog. While having a similar organization to that of other mammals, the olfactory system of the African wild dog has certain features that appear to correlate to their environmental niche.
Preterm birth (PTB) accounts for two-thirds of deaths of structurally normal babies and is associated with colossal lifetime health care costs. Prevention of PTB remains limited by prediction methods of modest accuracy- transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) cervical length (CL) and quantitative cervicovaginal fetal fibronectin (FFN) estimation. We report the first substantive study detailing the predictive performance of a cervical probe device based on Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) for PTB – the EleCtriCaL Impedance Prediction of Preterm birth by spectroscopy of the cervix (ECCLIPPx) studies. We aimed to compare the accuracy of cervical EIS-based prediction of spontaneous PTB in asymptomatic women in mid-trimester to TVUS CL and FFN.
We studied 449 pregnant women at 20-22 weeks (V1) and 26-28 weeks (V2). EIS was performed using the Sheffield Mark 5.0 device that makes measurements in the frequency range 76Hz to 625kHz using a small probe housing tetrapolar electrodes. TVUS CL and FFN were also measureon of spontaneous PTB < 37 weeks (AuROC 0.83, 95% CI 0.78-0.87) and < 32 weeks (AuROC 0.86, 95% CI 0.82-0.90).

This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of the cancer-related death in the world. Human amniotic mesenchymal stem cells (hAMSCs) have been characterized with a pluripotency, low immunogenicity and no tumorigenicity. Especially, the immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects of hAMSCs make them suitable for treating HCC. Here, we reported that hAMSCs administrated by intravenous injection significantly inhibited HCC through suppressing cell proliferation and inducing cell apoptosis in tumour-bearing mice with Hepg2 cells. Cell tracking experiments with GFP-labelled hAMSCs showed that the stem cells possessed the ability of migrating to the tumorigenic sites for suppressing tumour growth. Importantly, both hAMSCs and the conditional media (hAMSC-CM) have the similar antitumour effects in vitro, suggesting that hAMSCs-derived cytokines might be involved in their antitumour effects. Antibody array assay showed that hAMSCs highly expressed dickkopf-3 (DKK-3), dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3). Furthermore, the antitumour effects of hAMSCs were further confirmed by applications of the antibodies or the specific siRNAs of DKK-3, DKK-1 and IGFBP-3 in vitro. Mechanically, hAMSCs-derived DKK-3, DKK-1 and IGFBP-3 markedly inhibited cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis of Hepg2 cells through suppressing the Wnt/β-catenin signalling pathway and IGF-1R-mediated PI3K/AKT signalling pathway, respectively. Taken together, our study demonstrated that hAMSCs possess significant antitumour effects in vivo and in vitro and might provide a novel strategy for HCC treatment clinically.
New contexts of practice demand that professionals engage in critical reflection to handle new situations and to create new knowledge that is responsive to professional practices situated in unique historical and social contexts. Community of Practice offers a framework for professions to reflect together on practice dilemmas and to generate practical solutions.
This paper presents a participatory action research project that traces the trajectory of a Community of Practice made up of seven occupational therapists working in primary health care and a researcher team, in Brazil. This study mapped the Community of Practice’s trajectory between 2013 and 2017 through a group timeline analysis, which occurred gradually, in a collaborative mode.
Three distinct phases in the trajectory of the development of the Community of Practice were identified narrative perspectives were utilised as a means to identify dilemmas and difficulties in practice; the investigation of clients’ needs and identification of issues was an ongoing process; and the generation of practice-based knowledge through the development of instruments to sustain clinical reasoning was a creative solution to practical dilemmas.
