This study explored the clinical effect of implementing WeChat-based preoperative health education for parents of children with restrictive ventricular septal defect.
A prospective randomized controlled study was conducted in a provincial hospital on the southeast coast of China. Participants were randomly divided into an intervention (WeChat) group (n = 35) and a control group (leaflet) group (n = 35). The study explored the parents’ knowledge of preoperative care, the follow-up rate, and complications of children with restrictive ventricular septal defect.
The score of preoperative care knowledge of the WeChat group (66.9 ± 3.5) was significantly higher than that of the leaflet group (47.3 ± 6.3) (P = .006). Crenolanib Compared with the score of care knowledge at the first visit, the score of the WeChat group at the preoperation was significantly higher (P < .05), whereas the increase in the score of the leaflet group was not significant. The rate of lost follow-up in the WeChat group (0%) was significantly lower than in the leaflet group (16.7%) (P = .02). The complications in the leaflet group were significantly higher than in the WeChat group.
Using WeChat to provide preoperative health education to parents of children with restrictive ventricular septal defect can effectively enhance the parents’ knowledge of preoperative care and reduce the occurrence of complications and loss to follow-up.

Valve-related hemodynamics and intrinsically regulated matrix proteases are 2 determined pathogenetic factors associated with medial elastin degeneration in bicuspid aortopathy. This study analyzed the association between elastic fiber deterioration and the 2 pathogenetic factors in ascending and root morphotypes, aiming to elucidate the etiological heterogeneity between the 2 morphotypes.
Four-dimensional flow cardiac magnetic resonance was used to measure the regional wall shear stress (WSS) on the ascending aorta, and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression was assessed by immunoblotting. After histopathology analysis of aortic tissue, we assessed whether elevated regional WSS and increased MMP expression corresponded with medial elastin thinning.
Increased regional WSS corresponded with medial elastin thinning in both morphotypes. Increased expression of different MMP isoforms corresponded with medial elastin degeneration in bicuspid aortopathy. The significantly increased expression of MMP-2 correlastic fiber degeneration between the 2 morphotypes, implying that heterogeneity between them is revealed in the different intrinsic pathway of medial elastin degradation. All tissues are in a constant state of turnover, with a tightly controlled regulation of protein synthesis and breakdown rates. Due to the relative ease of sampling skeletal muscle tissue, basal muscle protein synthesis rates and the protein synthetic responses to various anabolic stimuli have been well defined in human subjects. In contrast, only limited data are available on tissue protein synthesis rates in other organs. Several organs such as the brain, liver and pancreas, show substantially higher (basal) protein synthesis rates when compared to skeletal muscle tissue. Such data suggest that these tissues may also possess a high level of plasticity. It remains to be determined whether protein synthesis rates in these tissues can be modulated by external stimuli. Whole-body protein synthesis rates are highly responsive to protein intake. As the contribution of muscle protein synthesis rates to whole-body protein synthesis rates is relatively small considering the large amount of muscle mass, this suggests that other organ tissues may also be responsive to (protein) feeding. Whole-body protein synthesis rates in the fasted or fed state can be quantified by measuring plasma amino acid kinetics, although this requires the production of intrinsically labelled protein. Protein intake requirements to maximise whole-body protein synthesis may also be determined by the indicator amino acid oxidation technique, but the technique does not allow the assessment of actual protein synthesis and breakdown rates. Both approaches have several other methodological and inferential limitations that will be discussed in detail in this paper.
A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine the cumulative incidences of decannulation and mechanical ventilation weaning in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who have undergone a tracheotomy. Weighted average mean times to tracheotomy, to decannulation, and to death were calculated from reported or approximated means.
PubMed, SCOPUS, CINAHL, and the Cochrane library.
Studies were screened by 3 investigators independently. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. Studies including patients with COVID-19 who underwent a tracheotomy were identified. Studies without reported mechanical ventilation weaning or decannulation were excluded. Data were pooled using a random-effects model.
After identifying 232 unique studies, 18 articles encompassing outcomes for 3234 patients were ultimately included for meta-analysis, with a weighted mean follow-up time of 28.6 ± 6.2 days after tracheotomy. Meta-analysis revealedergone successful decannulation.A 71-year-old female with symptomatic bitroncular coronary ischemic disease was admitted in our hospital for hybrid revascularization. She presented significant stenosis of the proximal and middle left anterior descending artery (LAD) and of the second segment of right coronary artery (RCA). She was scheduled for an Endoscopic Atraumatic Coronary Artery Bypass (EACAB) of the left internal mammary artery (LIMA) to LAD and staged percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) to RCA after the EACAB. Control of LIMA permeability after RCA PCI showed LIMA dissection with TIMI 2 flow to LAD. Decision to stent a freshly implanted LIMA led to LIMA rupture. An emergent LAD revascularization with a saphenous vein graft and control of bleeding was successfully performed. Patient was discharged at day 10 from the hospital.
