DAI, GEN and GLY were effectively cleared by UGT. Based on the measurement of exact masses, fragmentation patterns, and retention times in liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry, we preliminarily identified the 7-O-glucuronides as the main metabolites in salmon, possibly produced by UGT1A1 and UGT1A9-like activities. In contrast, the production of oxidative metabolites by CYP was insignificant. Under optimized assay conditions, only small amounts of mono-hydroxylated DAI were detectable. These findings suggested that bioaccumulation of phytoestrogens in farmed salmon and consumer risks from soy-containing aquafeeds are unlikely. Disparities in epilepsy treatment have previously been reported. In the current study, we examine the role of socioeconomic status, health insurance, place of residence, and sociodemographic characteristics in past-year visit to a neurology or epilepsy provider and current use of antiseizure medications. Multiple years of data were compiled from the National Health Interview Surveys, Sample Adult Epilepsy Modules. The sample (n = 1655) included individuals 18 years and older who have been told by a doctor to have epilepsy or seizures. Independent variables included number of seizures in the past year, health insurance, poverty status, education, region, race/ethnicity, foreign-born status, age, and sex/gender. Two sets of weighted hierarchical logistic regression models were estimated predicting past-year epilepsy visit and current medication use. Accounting for recent seizure activity and other factors, uninsured and people residing outside of the Northeast were less likely to see an epilepsy provider, and people living in poverty were less likely to use medications, relative to their comparison groups. However, no racial/ethnic and nativity-based differences in specialty service or medication use were observed. Further research, including longitudinal studies of care trajectories and outcomes, are warranted to better understand healthcare needs of people with epilepsy, in particular treatment-resistant seizures, and to develop appropriate interventions at the policy, public health, and health system levels. We introduced superoxide as potassium superoxide (KO2) to artificial lake water containing dissolved organic matter (DOM) without or with introduced ferric iron complexes (DOM-Fe(III)), and monitored the production rate of hydroxyl radicals as well as changes in the absorption and fluorescence properties of DOM. The introduction of KO2 decreased the absorption by DOM but increased the spectral slope coefficient of DOM more with complexed ferric Fe than without it. The introduction of KO2 increased the fluorescence of humic-like components in DOM without introduced ferric Fe but resulted in the loss of fluorescence in DOM with introduced ferric Fe. A single introduction of 13 μmol L-1 KO2 produced 10 μmol L-1 and 104 μmol L-1 hydroxyl radicals during a week-long experiment without and with the introduced DOM-Fe(III) complexes, respectively. The production rate of hydroxyl radicals decreased exponentially with time but levelled off and continued several days in DOM with introduced ferric Fe. These findings suggest that in the presence of DOM-Fe complexes, superoxide can trigger an autocatalytic Fenton reaction that produces hydroxyl radicals and breaks down DOM. Quantitative information on long-term net anthropogenic phosphorus inputs (NAPI) and its relationship with riverine phosphorus (P) export are critical for developing sustainable and efficient watershed P management strategies. This is the first study to address long-term (1980-2015) NAPI and riverine P flux dynamics for the Yangtze River basin (YRB), the largest watershed in China. Over the 36-year study period, estimated NAPI to the YRB progressively increased by ∼1.4 times, with NAPIA (chemical fertilizer input + atmospheric deposition + seed input) and NAPIB (net food/feed imports + non-food input) contributing 65% and 35%, respectively. Higher population, livestock density and agricultural land area were the main drivers of increasing NAPI. Navitoclax in vitro Riverine total phosphorus (TP), particulate phosphorus (PP) and suspended sediment (SS) export at Datong hydrological station (downstream station) decreased by 52%, 75% and 75% during 1980-2015, respectively. In contrast, dissolved phosphorus (DP) showed an increase inion control strategies. Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) are widely investigated as a promising technology to recover bioenergy or synthesize value-added products from wastewaters. The performance of BES depends on the activity of electroactive biofilm (EAB). As the core of BES, it is still unclear how the EAB is formed from mixed inoculum, and how exoelectrogens compete with non-exoelectrogens. Here we confirmed that microbial community composition and the morphology of EAB on the electrode including the thickness and porosity of the biofilm are critical for the performance of BES, and these properties can be simply controlled by the substrate concentration during EAB formation. The EAB formed with 0.1 g/L of acetate (EAB-0.1) exhibited a 90% higher current density than that formed with 1.0 g/L acetate (EAB-1.0). EAB-0.1 had a 50% higher electroactivity per biomass and a 20% thinner thickness than EAB-1.0, which was partly due to the 54% decrease of insulative polysaccharide in biofilm. Limited acetate also imposed a selective pressure to enrich Geobacter up to 88% compared to 72% when acetate was abundant. Our findings demonstrate that a highly active EAB can be formed by limiting substrate concentration, providing a broader understanding of the EAB formation process, the ecology of interspecies competitions and potential applications for bioenergy recovery and trace toxicant detection in the future. The occurrence and distribution of N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs) in membrane bioreactors (MBRs) treating wastewater has garnered much attention as they have been shown to play critical role in biofouling. There is a need to develop a single method capable of analysing AHLs in various wastewater with comparable and reliable performance. A novel and robust method was proposed for trace analysis of 11 AHLs in wastewater treatment systems treating domestic and industrial wastewater. This method utilised solid phase extraction (SPE) to extract AHLs from wastewater followed by liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) to extract AHLs from the SPE eluant, and used N-heptanoyl-dl-homoserine lactone (C7-HSL) as an internal standard. There was no need to prepare matrix-matched calibration curve for accurate quantification of AHLs in the liquid chromatography tandem mass chromatography (LC-MS/MS) analysis. The developed method was validated with six different types of domestic and industrial wastewater with regard to AHLs recoveries and matrix effects.
