In the last decades, due to monitoring programs and strict legislation poisoning incidents occurrence provoked by ingestion of naturally contaminated marine organisms has decreased. However, climate change and anthropogenic interference contributed to the expansion and establishment of toxic alien species to more temperate ecosystems. In this work, the coasts of Madeira, São Miguel islands and the northwestern Moroccan coast were surveyed for four groups of lipophilic toxins (yessotoxins, azaspiracids, pectenotoxins, and spirolides), searching for new vectors and geographical tendencies. Twenty-four species benthic organisms were screened using UHPLC-MS/MS technique. We report 19 new vectors for these toxins, six of them with commercial interest (P. aspera, P. ordinaria, C. lampas, P. pollicipes, H. tuberculata and P. lividus). Regarding toxin uptake a south-north gradient was detected. This study contributes to the update of monitoring routines and legislation policies, comprising a wider range of vectors, to better serve consumers and ecosystems preservation.COVID-19 is a present-day complex pandemic infection with unpredictable levels of morbidity and mortality in various global populations. COVID-19 is associated with the different comorbidities with its change in biological function such as causing heart dysfunction via deregulating ACE-2 receptor, gastrointestinal risk via causing vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, chronic kidney disease via proteinuria and hematuria, diabetes mellitus, liver injury via increasing ALT, AST and bilirubin level, lung injury, CNS risk, ocular risk, and cancer risk. In this, we are focused on the COVID-19 connected with male infertility. Some of the studies show that the patients of COVID-19 are associated with impaired spermatogenesis. Impaired spermatogenesis via COVID-19 decreases the level of testosterone by disturbing cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-4, IL-6, and IL-12 and further, attenuates the sperm count. COVID-19 is causing inflammation via TNF-α and interferons. IL-4 plays an eminent role in the activation of the JAK-STAT pathway and leads to the disturbing pro-inflammatory cytokine as well as further cause’s male infertility. Th2 activates the IL-4 through IgG and IgE and mediates apoptosis with the triggering of STAT signaling. The activated STAT signaling augments Batf/Irf4, and the Bach2/Batf pathway. On the other hand, SARS-CoV-2 is activating the level of Th2 cells. So, we hypothesized that the augmented Th2 cells would disturb the level of IL-4, JAK-STAT signaling, Batf/Irf4, and Bach2/Batf pathway. The disturbed IL-4 decreases the level of the ACE-2 with the inflammation. Plumbagone This further leads to male infertility in COVID-19 patients. So, in this hypothesis, we focused on the role of IL-4 in COVID-19 patients associated with male infertility via Th2 cells and JAK-STAT signaling.
Biomechanical impairments are not apparent during walking in people with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (JHS). This research explored biomechanical alterations during a higher intensity task, vertical jumping.
This cross-sectional study compared a JHS group (n=29) to a healthy control group (n=30). Joint kinematics and kinetics were recorded using a Qualisys motion capture system synchronized with a Kistler platform. Independent sample t-tests and standardised mean differences (SMD) were used for statistical analysis.
No significant statistical or clinical differences were found between groups in joint kinematics and jump height (p≥0.01). Sagittal hip and knee peak power generation were statistically lower in the JHS group during the compression phase (p≤0.01), but not clinically relevant (SMD<0.5). Clinically relevant reductions were found in the JHS group knee and ankle peak moments during the compression phase, and hip and knee peak power generation during the push phase (SMD≥0.5), although these were not statistically significant (p≥0.01).
The JHS group achieved a similar jump height but with some biomechanical alterations. Further understanding of the joint biomechanical behavior could help to optimize management strategies for JHS, potentially focusing on neuromuscular control and strength/power training.

Most of the time diffuse sources are not considered for rationalization of sampling sites as their accurate estimation is tedious and data intensive. The estimation of diffuse pollution is conventionally carried out using observed water quality data. These conventional approaches are data intensive and demands detailed information for a considerably long-time horizon and hence becomes challenging to implement in data-scarce regions. Also, diffuse pollution sources are characterized by spatio-temporal heterogeneity as they depend upon seasonal behavior of precipitation. The present study proposes an innovative semi-empirical approach of Seasonal Export Coefficients (SECs) for estimation of diffuse pollution loads, especially for tropical countries like India. This approach takes into account the effect of seasonality on the estimation of diffuse pollution loads, by considering seasonal hemining optimum locations and number of monitoring sites where seasonal variations are found evident during experimental years.Green roofs are among the most popular type of green infrastructure implemented in highly urbanized watersheds due to their low cost and efficient utilization of unused or under-used space. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of green roofs to attenuate stormwater runoff across a large metropolitan area in the Pacific Northwest, United States. We utilized a spatially explicit ecohydrological watershed model called Visualizing Ecosystem Land Management Assessments (VELMA) to simulate the resulting stormwater hydrology of implementing green roofs over 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of existing buildings within four urban watersheds in Seattle, Washington, United States. We simulated the effects of two types of green roofs extensive green roofs, which are characterized by shallow soil profiles and short vegetative cover, and intensive green roofs, which are characterized by deeper soil profiles and can support larger vegetation. While buildings only comprise approximately 10% of the total area within each of the four watersheds, our simulations showed that 100% implementation of green roofs on these buildings can achieve approximately 10-15% and 20-25% mean annual runoff reductions for extensive and intensive green roofs, respectively, over a 28-year simulation.
