An 84-year-old woman underwent subtotal stomach pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) for distal cholangiocarcinoma. Over 1000 ml of serous ascites, which appeared milky after starting a high-protein, low-fat, middle-chain triglyceride diet, was discharged from the inserted drain. On postoperative day (POD) 13, she underwent right hemicolectomy for transverse colonic volvulus, which occurred on POD 9 and was refractory to conservative therapies. Following second surgery, the chylous ascites (CA) amount continued to increase. Octreotide, albumin and diuretics were administered, but the amount of ascites did not decrease. Etilefrine was administered on POD 19; the ascites amount gradually decreased. The drain was removed 3 days after etilefrine administration. She had no symptoms of abdominal distention after drain removal. Etilefrine’s effectiveness for chylothorax after esophagectomy and CA after distal pancreatectomy has been reported. We present a case of CA successfully treated by etilefrine following PD. Our case highlights etilefrine’s usefulness for CA following PD. © The Author(s) 2020. It is also considered one of the 10 predominant reasons for childhood decease globally, particularly before vaccination was available. Congenital nephrotic syndrome (CNS) presents within the first 3 months of life. It is classified as primary or as secondary to other etiologies, such as infections, drug reactions, toxins, mercury exposure, diabetes mellitus and autoimmune diseases. This article describes the rare presentation of CNS as an outcome to Bordetella infection. That is treating pertussis resulted in CNS to resolve, so it was classified as secondary. This case is the first documented in Syria and the second worldwide. © The Author(s) 2020. Ultrastruct. Pathol. 1982;3359-65). Among these cases, only five cases were malignant or atypical. A 67-year-old female with primary pulmonary meningioma underwent thoracoscopic pulmonary wedge resection of the left lower lobe a year before. She had been aware of left thigh pain for 9 months, then she was referred to our division. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography suspected multiple bone metastasis including frontal bone, mandible, left scapula, rib, vertebra, pubis, left femur and sternum. We performed a needle biopsy of the sternum. Histopathological diagnosis was metastasis of primary pulmonary meningioma, World Health Organization grade III. We treated her with denosumab and radiation therapy targeting the left femur. Two months after the treatment, the pain had decreased and she could walk with no cane. No case of malignant extracranial meningioma with bone metastasis have been reported. © The Author(s) 2020. VKHD leads to chronic uveal inflammation accompanied by a decline in visual acuity in some patients when appropriate corticosteroid treatment was not initiated in an early phase. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are widely used in the treatment of several kinds of cancers and chemoimmunotherapy has become the standard of care in the first-line treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). While ICIs induce immune-related adverse events, drug-induced VKHD is quite rare with only four reports in the ICI monotherapy; three patients with melanoma and one patient with NSCLC. We describe the first case of VKHD during chemoimmunotherapy including pembrolizumab in a patient with NSCLC, which was successfully treated with corticosteroid without any sequela. © 2020 The Authors. Rarely, it can be life threatening and is characterized by extensive cutaneous tension and airway compromise requiring immediate intervention. There is a paucity of data on the most efficacious treatment methods for extensive SE. We report an 80-year-old gentleman who developed massive SE necessitating intubation for airway protection following a right chest tube insertion for spontaneous secondary pneumothorax. His SE persisted despite adequate thoracic drainage via a new chest tube. It was then decided to insert two negative pressure wound therapy dressings (NPWTD) or vacuum dressings in the patient’s subcutaneous tissue layer via incisions made at anterior chest wall. The dressings were removed after four days in view of significant improvements. NPWTD appears to be an effective, well-tolerated, safe, and inexpensive approach that hastens the resolution of SE without the need for invasive thoracic surgeries. © 2020 The Authors. Recently, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to play an important role in tumorigenesis and prognosis, however, few lncRNAs have been identified in CRC progression. We aimed to establish a lncRNA signature to improve prognosis prediction of CRC. Methods In the present study, we profiled lncRNA expression with a lncRNA-mining approach in two CRC data sets from Gene Expression Ominus (GEO) (GSE39582, N = 557 and GSE17538, N = 200). LncRNAs were analyzed to determine a prognostic signature by Cox regression and Robust likelihood-based survival model. We identified seven lncRNAs that significantly associated with the disease free survival (DFS) in the training group. A risk score formula was constructed to evaluate the performance of this lncRNA panel. Results A seven-lncRNA signature was established to predict prognosis of CRC patients. The prognostic value of this signature was verified in the training group, internal validation group and external validation cohort, respectively.
