Same-hospital readmission rates improved from 17.7% ± 3.6 to 14.5% ± 4.0 (weighted difference -4.38, p = 0.008, paired t-test). In addition, participating teams stated that the collaborative framework helped them develop strategies that improved patient care and organizational capacity for improvement in other domains.

The collaborative framework, beginning with education delivered in person and via webinars, combined with telephonically delivered coaching and knowledge sharing, assisted most members to improve care. Fourteen of 17 participating sites experienced a reduced AE-COPD readmission rate.

Effects of exercise interventions targeting frail adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) are unknown.

This study compared the effects of a combined exercise, walking programs and no intervention on frailty and muscle mass in adults with ID and pre-frail or frail conditions.

This study was a quasi-experimental design, with 103 adults from six residential care and day-care centers in southern Taiwan completing study participation. A 10-week combined exercise and walking program were administered to the experimental (n=36) and comparison (n=32) groups respectively, with no intervention provided to the control group (n=35). A questionnaire, measurements of frailty phenotype and a body composition machine were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, chi-squared test, ANOVA and repeated measure ANOVA tests were conducted in the Chinese IBM SPSS 20.0.

Significant differences on level of frailty among the three groups were revealed after interventions. Mean differences of muscle mass demonstrated significant changes between baseline and after interventions, although improvements of frailty score between baseline and after interventions were not significant.

Our preliminary findings demonstrated the tendency of positive effects of combined exercise or walking programs in improving level of frailty and muscle mass in adults with ID. Early implementation of exercise interventions might be beneficial for prematurely aging adults with ID.

This immune protection is due to the blood-testis-barrier, which prevents infiltration of cytotoxic immune cells and antibodies, and SC production of immunomodulatory factors, that favor a tolerogenic environment. The ability of SCs to create an immune privileged environment has led to the exploration of their potential use in the treatment of various diseases. SCs have been utilized to create a tolerogenic ectopic microenvironment, to protect co-grafted cells, and to deliver therapeutic proteins through gene therapy. To date, numerous studies have reported the potential use of SCs for the treatment of diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and restoration of spermatogenesis. Additionally, SCs have been investigated as a delivery vehicle for therapeutic products to treat other diseases like Laron syndrome, muscular dystrophy, and infections. This review will provide an overview of these therapeutic applications. The implementation of a nationwide diagnosis-related groups (DRG) reimbursement system in 2012 marked an important step in increasing the transparency and efficiency of hospital services in Switzerland. However, no clear evidence exists to date on the response of hospitals to the introduction of SwissDRG. Using administrative data on inpatient stays in Swiss university hospitals and the length of stay compliance (LOSC) as a measure of hospital performance, we find a significant short-term reduction in LOSC for hospitals that experienced a change from retrospective per diem to prospective DRG reimbursement, compared to hospitals with a prospective payment system already before 2012. LOSC can be interpreted as a performance indicator because it compares the actual length of stay with a benchmark value, taken from the yearly DRG catalogue. The reduction in LOSC implies that hospitals in the treatment group on average had an increase in LOS relative to the benchmark compared to the control hospitals. This may be interpreted as a negative effect of SwissDRG on hospital performance, at least in the short-run, and we provide supporting evidence that hospitals that worked under DRG already before adapted more quickly and efficiently.

The incidence of overweight among youth in Western Countries requires the implementation of initiatives to promote healthy lifestyles. click here Although under particular conditions obesity is not preventable, drawing attention on factors affecting teenagers’ preferences can ameliorate the efficacy of public interventions designed for health promotion.

This study aims at eliciting teenagers’ food preferences through a discrete choice experiment, conducted in Tuscany using a webAPP survey, with the participation of more than 4,700 teenagers. Respondents expressed their preferences for breakfast food based on three attributes food quality, packaging and claim. The survey also collected information on respondents’ socio-demographic characteristics, social influence and media use for food information.

Teenagers’ preferences for healthy foods seem positively related with their own level of food literacy. The tendency of respondents to read labels and nutritional facts is positively associated with preferences for healthier foods. Peers’ influence is not significant, while family influence has a positive impact on teenagers’ healthy choices. Internet usage is associated with unhealthy choices with a healthy aspect.

The results can be useful in defining effective actions for the promotion of healthy behaviors among teenagers, either in communication and awareness campaigns or in education and activation initiatives, with respect to the reading and interpretation of nutritional facts and labels, the role of family and friends, and the use of media.
