Radix Paeoniae Alba (RPA) presents several pharmacological effects, including analgesia, liver protection, and toxicity reduction. RPA consists mostly of monoterpenes and their glycosides, tannins, flavonoids, and organic acids, with monoterpenes being the main active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The superiority of surgical revascularization in ischemic cardiomyopathy is established beyond doubt, and off-pump CABG (OP-CABG) is a safe way of revascularization in this high-risk subset. Data on the effect of postoperative ventricular function and size on their midterm outcome is scarce.
A retrospective study was done on 211 consecutive patients with severe LV dysfunction who underwent OP-CABG from January 2017 to December 2018. Data were collected from the institutional database. Their operative and midterm outcomes were statistically analyzed.
The mean age of the cohort was 58.4 ± 8.3 years. An average number of grafts was 3.1 ± 0.8 (cumulative intended number of grafts-3). Operative mortality was 10.9%. Preoperative NYHA class (p < .0001; OR, 19.72) and postoperative IABP insertion (p < .008; OR,88.75) were independent predictors of operative mortality. The mean follow-up period was 3.14 ± 0.07 years, was 97.4% complete with cardiac mortality of 5.8%. Postoperative LVEF (p = .002; OR, 0.868)and LV dimensions (systole & diastole) (p = .013, OR = 1.182 and p = .036, OR = 1.184, respectively) were independent predictors of midterm mortality. Midterm major adverse cardiovascular event-free survival of operative survivors was 89%. There was no correlation between postoperative LV dimension and NYHA status(p > .05). Myocardial viability was not associated with early (p = .17) or midterm mortality (p = .676).

Facial emotion recognition (FER) is impaired in people with dementia and with severe to profound hearing loss, probably reflecting common neural changes. Here, we aim to study the association between brain structures and FER impairment in mild to moderate age-related hearing loss participants.
We evaluated FER in a cross-sectional cohort of 111 Chilean nondemented elderly participants. They were assessed for FER in seven different categories using 35 facial stimuli. We collected pure-tone average (PTA) audiometric thresholds, cognitive and neuropsychiatric assessments, and morphometric brain imaging using a 3-Tesla MRI.
According to PTA threshold levels, participants were classified as controls (≤25dB, n=56) or presbycusis (>25dB, n=55), with an average PTA of 17.08±4.8dB HL and 36.27±9.5dB HL respectively. Poorer total FER score was correlated with worse hearing thresholds (r=-0.23, p<0.05) in participants with presbycusis. Multiple regression models explained 57 % of the variability of FER in presbycusis and 10% in controls. In both groups, the main determinant of FER was cognitive performance. In the brain structure of presbycusis participants, FER was correlated with the atrophy of the right insula, right hippocampus, bilateral cingulate cortex and multiple areas of the temporal cortex. In controls, FER was only associated with bilateral middle temporal cortex volume.

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) in the management of heart failure (HF), including telemonitoring, thoracic impedance, implantable pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) monitors, and cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED)-based sensors, has had varying outcomes in single platform studies. Uncertainty remains regarding the development of single-centre RPM programs; additionally, no studies examine the effectiveness of dual platform RPM programs for HF.
