A retrospective cohort study from two tertiary medical centers. All women undergoing a TOLAC with no prior vaginal delivery, delivering a singleton SGA neonate at term between 2005 and 2020 were included. Factors associated with successful vaginal delivery were examined by a multivariable analysis. Of the 255 women who met the inclusion criteria and underwent TOLAC, 72.2% delivered vaginally. In a multivariable analysis, maternal height [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) (95% CI) 1.10 (1.02-1.19), p = 0.012] and epidural administration [aOR (95% CI) 2.78 (1.0-7.73), p = 0.050] were positively independently associated with TOLAC success, and hypertensive disorders were negatively independently associated with TOLAC success [aOR (95% CI) 0.52 (0.004-0.74), p = 0.029]. The success rate of TOLAC among women with no prior vaginal delivery, delivering a SGA neonate is relatively high. Maternal height, hypertensive disorders, and epidural administration are independent factors associated with TOLAC success. Epidural administration is a modifiable factor and should be taken in consideration during TOLAC management.The miR-183-96-182 cluster is a polycistronic miRNA cluster necessary for ovarian functions in mammals. However, its transcriptional regulation in the ovary is largely unclear. In this study, we characterized the promoter region of the porcine miR-183-96-182 cluster, and showed that SMAD4 may function as a transcriptional activator of the miR-183-96-182 cluster in GCs through direct binding to SBE motifs in its promoter. SMAD4 may inhibit GC apoptosis via suppression of FoxO1, an effector of GC apoptosis and a direct target of the miR-183-96-182 cluster, by inducing the miR-183-96-182 cluster, and this process may be regulated by the TGF-β/SMAD signaling pathway. Our findings uncovered the regulatory mechanism of miR-183-96-182 cluster expression in GCs and demonstrated that TGF-β1/SMAD4/miR-183-96-182 cluster/FoxO1 may be a potential pathway for regulating follicular atresia and female reproduction.

    The scientific rigor of the abstracts presented at the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) annual meeting has not been recently evaluated. In this study, we sought to determine the rate at which abstracts presented at the 2017 and 2018 ASBrS meetings were published in peer-reviewed journals, and compared the rates with breast abstracts presented at the 2018 Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) meeting.

    Abstracts from the 2017 and 2018 ASBrS and 2018 SSO conferences were searched in PubMed for published manuscripts using the abstract title and/or first or last author.

    In 2017, 21.6% of the 268 abstracts presented at the ASBrS conference resulted in full publication, compared with 36.6% of the 273 abstracts presented at the 2018 ASBrS conference, resulting in a significant difference in the publication rate (p<0.001). Of the 158 abstracts published from the 2017 and 2018 meetings, 75 (47.8%) were published in Annals of Surgical Oncology (ASO). There was no correlation between impact factor and time to publication. Oral presentations and quick shots were more likely to be published than poster presentations, and oral presentations were more likely to be published in higher-impact journals. The 2018 SSO meetings resulted in 54 of 111 (48.6%) breast abstracts leading to full publication.

Recent data have revealed racial differences in patient comorbidities, informed decision-making satisfaction, and clinical outcomes after breast reconstruction. Explicitly, African American women have significantly more risk factors for complications and less baseline knowledge regarding reconstructive options than white women. With a recent heightened attention focused on social determinants of health, studies designed to improve these racial differences have demonstrated promising results through educational outreach to underserved communities, implementation of tailored legislation promoting inclusion, diversity, and equity, and encouragement of additional recruitment of ethnically underrepresented-in-medicine surgeons.
