    CTFIBTEM was shorter than CTEXTEM before and after CPB by 6.8% (95% confidence interval [CI], 5.5-8.1) and 8.9% (95% CI, 4.7-13.0), respectively. Lengthening temporalis myoplasty, described by Daniel Labbe in 1997, is a facial reanimation procedure for the treatment of facial nerve palsy. It involves the mobilization of temporalis muscle antero-inferiorly, and the insertion of its tendon at the nasolabial fold-oral commissure region. Knowledge of the temporalis muscle is crucial in performing this procedure; however, previous anatomical studies are limited. This study on cadavers, aimed to describe the anatomical location of the temporalis muscle insertion in relation to the adjacent structures, and its main pedicle to aid surgeons in performing this procedure. Twenty-four temporalis muscles were dissected in 12 fresh frozen cadavers. The anatomical location of the temporalis muscle insertion, accessory attachments, the emergence of the posterior deep temporal artery, and the distance of sliding movements from the coronoid process to the nasolabial fold were recorded. In addition to its origin from the temporalis fossa and its insertion at the coronoid process, the temporalis muscle was found to have multiple accessory attachments to adjacent structures. These findings explain the challenges in performing the sliding action without releasing the accessory attachments to the masseter and pterygoid muscles. The deep posterior temporal artery is located inferoposteriorly in relation to the muscle. Therefore, the muscle elevation maneuver performed without direct vision can be done with minimal risk to the muscle pedicle. The knowledge of temporalis muscle insertion, its accessory attachments, and its main pedicle will facilitate surgeons in performing the lengthening temporalis myoplasty more confidently. INTRODUCTION Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to attain or sustain an erection for sexual intercourse. Affected men endorse difficulties with intimacy and feelings of guilt and shame. Although medical treatments are available, patients are reluctant to discuss ED with physicians and often use dietary supplements to attempt to treat their ED. As such, there is a need to better understand the effects of ingredients used in nutraceuticals for ED treatment. OBJECTIVES To summarize the literature on the efficacy and safety of the most common ingredients used in ED supplements. METHODS 10 of the most common ingredients in ED supplements were reviewed using PubMed-indexed literature to assess their efficacy and safety in treating ED. Key findings were summarized to include historical use, active ingredients, prior animal studies, human studies, and toxicity. RESULTS Nutraceuticals used in ED treatment include a variety of ingredients. Although L-arginine is a safe supplement with clinical data supporting improved erectile function, limited data exist on the efficacy of other ingredients in the treatment of ED. CONCLUSION Despite the growing use of supplements for treatment of sexual dysfunction, ED supplements remain poorly studied, with limited data demonstrating efficacy of individual ingredients. Valproic acid is a commonly used drug for many psychiatric disorders, particularly for epilepsy. However, it has been reported that its use is associated with possible side effects including hepatotoxicity. The present study investigated the hepatoprotective effect of ellagic acid against valproic acid-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Ellagic acid (60 mg/kg/day; p.o) was treated for one week, followed by concomitant injection of valproic acid (250 mg/kg/day; i.p.) for another 14 consecutive days to induce hepatocellular damage in adult Sprague-Dawley rats. Valproic acid showed a marked increase in serum enzyme activities, AST, ALT, ALP and GGT. In addition, it significantly increased MDA and NO along with a marked decline in reduced GSH content. At the same time, valproic acid administration resulted in marked elevation in hydroxyproline, TNF-α production and NF-kB expression. These results were confirmed by histopathological examination. Treatment with ellagic acid markedly attenuated valproic acid-induced hepatic injury in rats. BACKGROUND Although smoking is a primary cause of lung cancer, females are overrepresented among never-smokers with the disease. The mutational landscape of adenocarcinoma in never-smoking females has been extensively profiled; however, there is little knowledge about genomic alterations in non-adenocarcinoma non-small-cell lung cancer (NA-NSCLC). In the study, we reviewed the status of oncogenic drivers of NA-NSCLC in these populations. MATERIALS AND METHODS Comprehensive genomic profiling was performed on DNA extracted from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections of 52 NA-NSCLC tissues, including 35 squamous cell carcinomas (SQCCs), 11 adenosquamous carcinomas, 5 pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma, and 1 large cell carcinoma by next-generation sequencing within a panel of 68 cancer-related genes. RESULTS Mutations of the common oncogenic drivers (EGFR, KRAS, ALK, ROS1, MET, RET, and ERBB2) occurred in 61.5% of cases. CONCLUSION Female never-smokers with NA-NSCLC in this study had a high frequency of currently known or potentially actionable oncogenic alterations and could benefit from targeted therapy. Our study also provides evidence for the recommendation of molecular analysis in never-smoking female SQCC.
