This study was conducted to identify the characteristics of fall incidents and fall rate among hospitalized children in South Korea.
A secondary analysis was carried out using patient safety reports for those aged 0-19 years from Korean Patient Safety Reporting & Learning System (KOPS) and the National Health Insurance Corporation from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2018.
A total of 723 safety accidents were reported to KOPS in 2018, of which 461 (63.8%) were medication errors and 117 (16.2%) were fall incidents. The fall rate of hospitalized children was 0.10 per 1000 patient days. By gender, boys were more affected (62.4%), and by age, 80 (68.4%) were aged 1-9 years. About 16% of children who sustained falls incurred temporary or long-term damage.
The findings demonstrate the national-level fall rate of hospitalized children as well as various features of safety accidents including pediatric falls that occurred in Korean children’s hospitals. Younger children, and particularly boys, were likely to experience more falls than older children and girls, respectively.
Nurses and other healthcare providers should recognize the important features of fall incidents among hospitalized children to ensure better quality of care and patient safety.

Cancer survivorship starts at diagnosis. Transition readiness is an important indicator for pediatric cancer survivors to move from pediatric to adult medical care. Appropriate measurement of transition readiness can facilitate better cancer survivorship. This study aimed to translate and validate of the English version of the TRANSITION-Q into Chinese.
The translation followed the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) best-practice guidelines for the translation and cultural adaptation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROM). A cross- psychometric testing on reliability and validity were conducted from a convenient sample of Chinese adolescent cancer survivors aged 10-19 years.
Two hundred seventy-one pediatric cancer patients were recruited for the psychometric validation. The 14-item Chinese TRANSITION-Q demonstrated adequate reliability. see more In exploratory factorial analyses and confirmatory factor analysis, a two-factor structure emerged with a variance of 54.78%, demonstrating construct validity. Convergent validity test showed TRANSITION-Q score was significantly positively correlated with self-efficacy (r = -0.84, p = 0.002). The known-group validity demonstrated the older group (age ≥14 years) had a significantly higher mean TRANSITION-Q score than the younger group (age < 14 years) (p = 0.04).
The Chinese version of the TRANSITION-Q is reliable and valid and can be used in Chinese research and clinical settings.

This scale can be used in Chinese clinical and research settings to investigate understanding of transition readiness in Chinese pediatric cancer survivors.In this investigation, we integrated the parent recurring sequence of the plastic-derived polypeptide, poly[0.8(AVGVP),0.2(AEGVP)] (A, V, G, P, and E represents Alanine, Valine, Glycine, Proline, and Glutamic acid respectively) followed by characterization with inverse transition temperature, 13C, and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The miscibility attributes of poly[0.8(AVGVP),0.2(AEGVP)] with Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose was examined both in aqueous and solid-phase. The Huggins’ co-efficient [KH], the intrinsic viscosity [η], the interaction parameters ΔB and μ suggested by Chee, ΔK and β recommended by Jiang and Han, α by Sun, Δ[η]m by Garcia showed that the polypeptide was miscible with HPMC in all proportions. DSC studies revealed single Tg values, and TGA manifested the enhanced thermal stability for all the proportions compared with their individuals. Further, verified the results by SEM and XRD. The FTIR evidenced existence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the two constituent polymers that caused the miscible blend system.Durable and environment friendly superhydrophobic surfaces are needed for a set of important applications. Biomedical applications, in particular, impose stringent requirements on the biocompatibility of the materials used in the fabrication of superhydrophobic surfaces. In this study, we demonstrate the fabrication of mechanically durable superhydrophobic surfaces via an in-situ structuring strategy starting from natural carnauba wax and biocompatible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) materials. The transfer of the structure of the paper to a free-standing PDMS film provided the microscale structure. On top of this structured surface, the wax was spray-coated, initially resulting in a relatively homogeneous film with limited liquid repellence. The key in achieving superhydrophobicity was rubbing the surface for in-situ generation of a finely textured wax coating with a water contact angle of 169° and a sliding angle of 3°. The hierarchically structured surface exhibits mechanical robustness as demonstrated with water impact and linear abrasion tests. We finally demonstrate repellence of the surfaces against a range of blood products including platelet suspension, erythrocyte suspension, fresh plasma, and whole blood.
